I grew up in Peoria, which isnt too far from there. Normal is a twin city to Bloomington, which is home to Illinois State University. Its a pretty young city...meaning lots of young people. Nice houses and schools but there are a few bad areas. Tornadoes arent too bad! They happen a lot more often in the rural areas. I wouldnt worry too bad about it. I hoped I helped a little.

Thank you for the info.
Would you mind telling me about Peoria?
My husband had read about the town.
And thought maybe it would be a nice place to live in..

Peoria is okay. You get a big city feel even though you are pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Suprisingly it is pretty boring after awhile.

I have lived in the middle of nowhere.
And I think I do not want a repeat of the experience.
Thank you very much for the info.

I spent 4 yrs in Normal. It's like any other college town pretty much. Job market is decent. State Farm is HQ'd there and Catepillar (sp?), is nearby too.

I'd recommend Springfield, Illinois.
Plenty of things to do.
Housing is good. Real Estate are good.

normal!!
I grew up in Normal (about 15 years) and graduated from Illinois State (which IS in Normal, NOT Bloomington). Normal is a wonderflul town; I miss it so much! Normal and Bloomington are "twin cities" and together total about 100K population. Its the perfect size, and Unit 5 is rated VERY highly among IL school districts. Its clean, progressive, growing exponentially, and the job market is very stable due to State Farm Insurance, primarily. I also heard a statistic once that Blm/Normal has the most restaurants per capita in the US- that's probably not true, but there are an awful lot! I don't know about Springfield, but avoid Peoria; its a dirty river town and the economic situation just continues to depreciate. If you're interested in Central Illinois, B-N is your best bet!
