What is Dixon like?
Just curious about race relations in the Dixon area? Is it a good idea for blacks to move into the town or is there a place "better suited" for them to reside?

Shouldnt be a problem, there are a few black families in town, and quite a few Hispanics. Everyone seems to get along just fine. I used to live about 5 miles outside of Dixon and spent alot of time there.

I live in Dixon and I haven't seen or heard of any race relation problems yet. There seems to be a healthy mix of different ethnicity's in town. You are always going to have your idiot racist's but I must say I haven't seen or heard from a single one in my time here in Dixon. BTW I've lived here 18 months.

I have lived in Dixon the past 20 + years. Schools , suck. Send your kids to perocial , or join the mob of teachers who home school. The people are nice, but I have known young black and hispanic men, to get pulled over on a regular. A Very sports minded comunity, catering to the residing Doctors and Lawers. There is a small comunity college, and the best thing is , you can be in Wisconsin in an hour. Mabe not a good choice for yourself, but better then The quad cities.

We lived south of Oregon, Ill. near the Lee County line and would often travel to Dixon for groceries, or for some shopping.
Coming back and seeing it five years later I am surprised at the number of Hispanics; not that that is a bad thing; but it almost seems as if they are outnumbering the whites.

I'd recommend areas across the Mississippi in NE and North Central Iowa, except Davenport (Crimey there)

Crimey is the word to describe Rockford and the West Side.
Dixon is alright. In the 17 years I lived in Mount Carroll, I never heard of any race issues in Dixon, and the cops down there pull over most everybody, not just blacks/hispanics.

If I recall, Dixon had an issue a few (or 10) years ago and lost federal funding or State funding for their schools, and they were not performing well.
That may have changed, and I may be wrong!

Dixon is 10% African American and the Neighboring town of Sterling is 2% and growing.
