As An Fyi That May Not Fit You
Although I realize that you are searching for a public school, I would just like to add one more private school that perhaps someone might have an interest.
In the City of Chicago, there is also the Moody Bible Institute with its very excellent music education program.
My son went to MBI for one year in music education - piano. At that time, the TUITION at MBI was free to all students. However, one still has to pay for room and board. After one year, my son quit because he did not see a future vocation soley in music.
The Moody Bible Institute, a private college, DOES consider your religious beliefs as a requirement for an entering freshman student. So MBI is not for everyone but there is perhaps some reader who might have an interest with MBI.
I don't remember the web site of MBI but if you have an interest, try "Moody Bible Institute. edu" as a guess.
Best Regards,
Carter Glass,
Wheaton, IL

To the OP: Do talk to your student's guidance counselors. It is their job to help kids find colleges to apply to. This is not the place to get information based on what people have "heard", etc.

Try Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. That is my alma mater and I majored in music there. Dr. Victor Markovich leads one of the top band programs in the country and is one of the finest conductors I've studied with.

Why have people mentioned colleges in other states? It is fairly obvious the OP wanted to take advantage of in-state tuition rate at a public Illinois college. Why else would they ask in the Illinois forum?
Also, the OP posted this thread over 2 years ago. I think it is safe to assume they made a choice.

People mentioned colleges in other states and/or private colleges in Illinois because there are very few if any in-state public schools that mesh well with the stated interest/field of study; and we wanted to make it clear that he/she should strongly consider other options in order to accommodate the desired field of study. If "you can't get there from here," then they need to know that and know what their other options are.

Also, it's not inconceivable that there may be others for whom the topic is pertinent, even if college selection is no longer an issue for the OP. I do think it's important to point out that, although the OP (and many others) specify that public institutions are what they are looking for, depending on factors like auditions, scholarships, and grants, it can actually be less costly to go the private route. I know it was for me. That's assuming that the main impetus for public v. private is cost, though. I realize there are other reasons one might opt for a public university program.
