My husband will be working in Joliet and I have a possible job downtown. We have two young kids who will be in daycare (not yet school age). Where would you live? I'd prefer my commute to be the shortest of the two since I"ll be taking the kids to daycare (wherever that may be). Thanks!

The good thing is that you can pick up the train from both Joliet and downtown. You can get more house for the money in Joliet and Plainfield, but it depends on if you want suburban or city living. I live n Plainfield but I will warn you the drive is killer to downtown if your not on a train.

Have you considered Berwyn? It's a hot area right now... prices are good and it's a little suburban and a little city. It's also a little closer to downtown than it is to Joliet, but either way a tolerable commute for both of you.

Thanks for the replies so far. We are going to rent since we likely will only be there a year. We'd like to pay no more than $1250/mo for rent but if we have to we can go up to $1500. We need a 2-3 bedroom place (2 is more realistic with our price range) and parking for our two cars. It seems so daunting to commute from Joliet into the city or vice versa - do a lot of people do this?

I would consider Lockport, for convenience to Joliet and Chicago. The home prices are reasonable and there is Metra service into Chicago. I have no info on daycare, tho'.

Its a bedroom community so don't expect any nightlife.

Tinley Park might be a good area to consider. It is right off interstate 80 which your husband can take straight to Joliet, and has 2 train stations for you to get downtown. Its a very nice area with lots of shopping, dining, and good schools.

I agree that Tinley Park may be a good area to consider because of it's location right off I-80, the train stations, and close proximity to I-57, which will take you into Chicago.

However, with tinely park it is quite the pretty penny to live there.
