My family is moving to Springfield this summer, and our 3-year-old daughter will be starting preschool there. We have heard that it can be important to check preschools out before you enroll your child, but because we currently live out-of-state, we won't be able to look at any preschools before it comes time to begin registration at them.

If anyone has any advice about whether there are any preschools to avoid or if there are any that stand out, I would really appreciate it. The specific schools we are currently considering (just after making some phone calls) are: YMCA Discovery preschool, Preschool in the Park (either Washington or Lincoln), and St John's Lutheran preschool. If you happen to know anything about any of these, I would love to hear it.

I hope someone can help me! Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything specific about Sprinfrield schools. What I know is that the Y has always been a good place for children of all ages. and if your child to have a religous environment, the Lutheran Church should be just fine.

I do urge you to go to each school and meet the people who will shape your daughter's early childhood school experience.

There are many daycare/preschools in Springfield and surrounding areas. Do you know where you are going to live? That may be a big factor in helping you choose. We used Westside Christian Church when we first moved here (1995), have heard good things about Pleasant Park in Chatham, Building Blocks in Springfield, our church has a nice preschool Cherry Hills Baptist Church | Springfield, IL (http://cherryhillsfamily.org/PreSchool.asp - broken link)
