I'm going to a party Sat night where we're going to cook and eat them. Well, other people might. I'm not going to!

Yes! They are EVERYWHERE in Western Springs. It's disgusting. Anyone who wants to eat them, feed them to pets, whatever is welcome to come to my house with a shovel.

Ours too...I did hear that people are gathering them and donating them to the zoo for animal food, which I think is a fantastic idea. However, I don't want to get a shovel/broom and move them because I'm paranoid there going to land on my head and shoulders. Tomorrow I have to cut the grass, which will be interesting. I think I'm going to wear long johns, gloves, and a cowboy hat to cover myself....gross...

I just heard on the news last night that cicadas can bring allergic symptoms to some people. There was a report of a man who was allergic to shellfish, he ate cicadas and was taken to the hospital with the same allergy symptoms that happened when he ate shellfish.
So be careful when you eat these!

Thx. My son happens to be allergic to shellfish, so I'll let him know, too. (I sincerely doubt he'd try them, but you never know...)

How do you handle these suckers???
ENJOY THEM! Pick them up and play with them. They aren't going to hurt you at all. They're like innocent little creatures from Mars, with those beady red eyes. Cicadas are great! I love 'em.
