What is the best auction house--meaning, where can I get the best crowd to get the most for my items--on this Illinois side of the river?
I have no problem driving an hour or even 1-1/2 hr. to deliver the stuff, but don't want to go much further than that.
I've heard Geneseo has a good one, but know nothing about the types of items they sell. They might not take all the small collectibles I have is my worry.
If anyone has any knowledge about the auction houses in this area, I would appreciate some help.

What I learned frorm auctions is it easier in the end to do at the house - unless you have small items. Ive done it both ways. I have friends in the business who say auctions are not bringing much due to the economy. The problem with delivering to an auction house is you are expected to remove all of your things that do not sell. The best auction houses posts notices in newspapers and grocery stores, etc..

When dad died we had an auction at the house. We didn't have to do anything except answer questions if they had any. They moved everything. for mother.

They are all listed in phone books and on the Internet. A good auction house will answer all your questions honestly. My questions are: what sells best; is anyone is buying now, and are your auctions well attended?

I donated a lot of small stuff to charities and took the write-off.

Regardless, they all want clean items unless they are collectibles.
