The first settlers were not cowards. They travelled great distances to a new land where they either made a go of it or went back home. They did not come here to mooch and leech, because there was nothing to mooch and leech off of.
Because of the distance involved, the settlers made a clean break with the old country and set about making a life in America. When they left their homelands I expect many knew they would never see their family members again. They were not in the habit of bringing over all their relatives.

I do not consider naming an area New England or New France to be replicating their lands. Maybe they simply were not good at coming up with names for new places. Anyhow, once in the US they did not insist on speaking German, French or Italian. They did not continue to follow English or Greek laws. They did not conduct financial transactions with zlotys or krone. They did not insist on building the same kind of house they lived in when they were in Portugal even though their new home was Minnesota. In short, they ASSIMILATED to the US in many different ways. After all, their overriding goal was to be an American, not an Austrian who happened to live in America.

Cowardly to cross an ocean on a little rat-trap ship with few provisions in the 1700s or in 2007 driving drugs in a stolen SUV over a nearly dry river to kill people?

Or cowardly to travel over land for weeks, then board a steam ship to go to a country where you don't speak the language well, don't understand the culture, have nothing but the clothes on your back and the money in your pocket and your work ethic, knowing you'll probably never see your family or homeland again? Knowing that you'll have to learn the language because nobody's going to bend over backwards for you?

Yeah, REAL cowardly.

Plus the early settlers didn't even have cell phones to call the Border Patrol when they got lost.

Dear junkman I'm not illegal sympathizer, I'm anti illegal immigration, because no human being should be illegal, we are slaves!! all of us!!!, think about it.

we are slaves of patriotism, prisioners of the state, the boot of patriotism is over our chests and the chains of the state don't let us think or react in a better way, it is sick!!

Patriotism, can justify criminalizing people, invading other countries for greed, and a lot of social diseases

let's break free!

Make it happen

Not to take anything away from your grandfather or Polish history, but Mexico has some bad areas. In the U.S. we freak out over an inner city project, trust me that's like Beverly Hills to some Mexican neighborhoods. Enlighten me with proof of this statement.

You should already know this if you took the world history course required of every high school junior in the state of Texas. Otherwise, there's always Wikipedia. It's common knowledge; do your own homework.
