WyattE - How about instead I continue to enjoy living in Indiana with my family and friends (and I'll also tell others about it) while you and the other complainers continue being miserable?

I think that sounds better. And no I won't dictate that is what you or the others should do because you seem to be doing that on your own already.

I believe it's great to be able to express your opinion on a forum like this. If you really cannot justify your opinions with rationality nor with direct personal experience backing up your claims perhaps you should be prepared for others with opposite experiences to challenge you and the value of the opinions you express.

A few of the indiana haters sound like I did when I was in high school. But what high schooler doesn't hate where they live and want to get out? I don't mean that as a slam to the haters, but one thing it does do is justify my feelings from my youth and am happy as heck that I left for awhile and came back when I wanted to come back.

I've often told people that Indiana is NOT the most most exciting place to live and I'm sure my kids will feel the same way about Indiana when they are itching to get out on their own. I hope they do leave and find their own way and if they want to come back with their kids and settle down like me and my husband did, back in the Hoosier state, I'll know that I made at least a few good decisions in my lifetime.

Indiana is not as bad as some make it out to be. You can be miserable anywhere.

I'm going to keep this thread open as long as it doesn't get too nasty. So far, we've all been "civil" to a degree. From what I can tell, those anti-Indiana folks don't like it because they can't find a date, can't find a job, or hate the job they are in. All valid reasons to hate where one is living, but you can be dateless, unemployed or hate your job elsewhere too, Indiana doens't have the market cornered on social and vocational misery. I suppose being miserable in a warmer climate may help, but I wouldn't know.

Peace

I hope the move you mentioned on this forum "out west" somewhere with your family is fruitful and brings great happiness your direction. I wont say that I'll miss you, but I do look forward to hearing about any paradise you discover wherever you end up. Maybe you'll encourage more people unhappy in Indiana to move with you.

And Colorado is the leanest ... so? I can see it now ... "hey domergurl, why did you leave Indiana?" .... well, of course, it's because Indiana is the 9th fattest state in the country sillyhead I mock because I love.

I think our new state motto should be, Indiana, not as fat as Kentucky!

What has MB said to make you hate Indiana so much?

I have 31 years of experience in Indiana "living" so I would say my OPINION is valid, just like yours. On the contrary, I am not "miserable." Just because I feel the need to better myself by leaving the midwest does not make me "miserable." It does not make me any better than anyone either, it simple means I know what I need to do. I'm very happy that some of you have found contentment in this state, great for you!!! Tell all your friends how wonderful it is here. I, on the other hand, have different feelings so when someone asks ME about Indiana I will tell them my opinion.
As far as Indiana being fat, it's true. It's also in the top 5 for most smokers. Those things aren't what drive me out of here though, all states have there own problems IMO. Us "hoosiers" who are moving and don't like this state are not trying to team up on you who do like it here. Theres less of us so it's just nice to have a few others who understand. Is that so wrong? To be listened to?

Jake has said it the best. I've tasted the life outside of Indiana and I want more of it. I'm not saying Indiana is the worst. There are other states that I would consider worse and I would never move to.
My beef with MB is due to his choices of words to make himself sound intellectual and his/her pretending to be better than the rest of us while trying to put us down while doing so. Show some respect for other people's opinions, don't dictate or try to use put down's to influence "your" opinion. This isn't High School.

elpage is on a distinguished road
Right on Chicken_Man. I grew up in Southern Indiana and had the opportunity to get out for a few years. But, like so many others, I became an idiot and moved back. Although it used to be so fun because you could get away with virtually anything, the crackheads have ruined it for everyone. It wasnt that long ago either. I'm only 28. Now I cant get out, due to my profession and lack of demand, and I'm stuck dealing with these backasswards rednecks all the time. I'm just glad somebody else feels the same way I do. Whoever is considering a relocation to the area, do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. This place gets worse every day. Especially Posey and Vanderburgh counties.

28 is NOT too old! I'm 31 and my wife is 23, we take lease in our Los Angeles apartment on March 1st. The deal is sealed and we are never looking back. We do have some friends out there though so that makes it alot easier, oh and we don't have kids or many bills either. I did a "trial" stay in SoCal for 3 months and I fell right into the swing of things. I love the place. Hated coming back here to wait to move, but it's almost time

Where did you find these rankings? I'm curious to see all of the categories and how the states added up ^^
