I decided to hold my graduation date back to get in a degree in programming also so I could open up a new world of places to move to when I'm done.
Oh yeah... And make more money...

We are from California and let me tell you that in conparison to where we come from I would live here any day. The weather is so much nicer...yeah that's a stretch and people from here do not understand what we mean. There are actual seasons. Being from Los Angeles..well you do not have to check your weather station ..ever. 70 all the time. I know that sounds great but ...what about seeing the first flower in spring as the snow melts or going to a ball game in the summer and knowing that you need your sun screen or when it turns fall and your children are so excited to see the leaves on the ground because that means that Halloween will soon be on it's way...even better is the day after Thanksgiving when is nice and brisk out..maybe even a flurry or two and you load your precious bundles into the car with a cup of HOT Chocolate and thoughts of a wonderfull green christmas tree coming home with you that day. I can top that. How about coming all this way and promissing your children that you'll no longer have to work 3 jobs and that some day you'll give them a yard that is all their own to play in..then seeing that actually happen ......here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Please don't down this wonderfull state until you give it the chance that it fully deserves. I at one point felt much like you, but now it's home. The Colts and all they bring and even the Pacers. It's like one big family..so I'm proud to call myself a Hoosier and so should you.

Well said. I think you put many things in perspective for us here. Every place has their share of problems, but we do have many things to be thankful for in Indiana. I recently went on a search of places to live...stayed in Phoenix, Southern California, Colorado and Tampa Bay area. We decided that southern Indiana is where we are most comfortable...no slam on any of those other areas, but for us, Indiana is home.

Not proud, sorry. 31 years and I need a change. Ice and snow will never be my friend. Not into sports at all and don't want a family so needless to say the hoosier state may be your dream come true, some people's dreams are other people's nightmares, remember that.
We have friends our age who live in L.A. now and we love it out there! We visited so much over the past 5 years that we decided to move there. Say what you will, but I respect your need for change, please respect mine.

There seems to be a huge divide in opinion of Indiana that directly affects the location. Like, I'm from Northern IN (like some of you others are) and have read that most/a lot HATE it here...whereas I have rarely seen someone dis' southern IN. Having been through both areas, In my opinion, northern IN (or in my case, northwestern IN) is completely different! Unless you like football, bad humidity, yucky snow and horrible winds, it's not worth living here.

I live in Northeastern, and it's nothing like some of what people are talking about. The arrogance and ignorance. They must of had some experiences with a few people and imagined everyone was like that around here. It's not. And it doesn't matter where you go there will always be arrogance and ignorance. Some just choose not to see it where they have their minds set to. But you can't change someones mind. However, the humidity here is nothing compared to the east coast. If you want bad humidity go to North Carolina. I was there for 4 weeks, and I walked outside and started sweating within seconds. I don't sweat very often. That was crazy.

Some areas of the south have high humidity too. Went to Florida and hated it. Really the only areas of the country that appeal to me (culturally and climate wise) is the west coast. SoCal, Arizona, Nevada, I love it out there. Less than 100 days left in the hoosier state! Yes, there are idiots everywhere, you'll never escape that unfortunatly.

Good Luck Jake! I'm jealous you get to leave Indiana for a better life. Finally you get to "live" the good life. I'm hoping one day I'll be able to do the same as you. Dreams do come true.

I don't like Indiana, that is why I moved. I grew up in a very rural area (population of 1,000) and unfortunately I chose to go to college in Evansville Indiana to avoid paying out of state tuition. After I graduated from college at the age of 22, I moved to New York City. To the original poster, yes it is true that the people in Indiana are generally very 'narrow minded' and for some reason nobody can seem to grasp why someone would want to venture outside of the state. Whenever I talked about my plans to move across the country people would look at me like I was an alien and ask, 'Why'. Everybody that I met and knew lacked an education, any intelligence, creativity, goals, and ambitions. Most of the people I met in college weren't very intelligent either, most ended up dropping out and they were all locals who commuted to school because they were too scared to leave their families and go to school elsewhere. Basically if you aren't an ignorant redneck who wants to work in a factory your whole life then you are automatically an outsider and everybody will sense that you aren't one of them and will stare at you everywhere you go. It also seemed as if everybody in Indiana only liked to make babies. Halfway through my high school career there was hardly anyone in my class anymore because everybody had dropped out and had six kids by the age of 16, then went off to work some menial jobs and were just as content as could be living off their welfare checks and driving their pick up trucks around, listening to Rascal Flats. People there also like to talk about what good christians they are before they turn around and tell you how much they hate 'n*ggers'. Bascially if you're an underachieving, stupid, racist homophobic closet homosexual who hates anything that's different and loves to make babies all day while listening to country music then Indiana would be the ideal place for you.
