I thought so too
People told me I was crazy that people here in Indiana are not rude. Please I went out of town to South Carolina and I could not believe how nice people were there, It made me realize how rude the young are here in South Bend IN and the men I mean a good man is very hard to find. Does any one else fell this way too? Or is it just me?

Dislike living in Indiana
I was born and have lived in Indiana all my life. I don't like it because most of the overall planning and operation of this state is backward and opposed to progress. After all these years, very little has changed. The only bright spot is Indianapolis, which is open and progressive. I have established roots, in my city, that bind me; or I would be long gone!

Nobody says you can't go home...
Good song, right? Well, I've lived around, and I've got the Navy to thank for feeding me that wanderlust to the point now that I just keep wanting to see new places and things. I don't know why, hope it will go away eventually, but an enjoying the spices of life along the way.
Everyone wants an adventure...but nobody wants to pack...
I guess what I'm saying is there is a lot of Indiana bashing going on here...um do like the song says and break away...here's some words of warning though. The "real" world as I thought it was isn't as friendly as you might think. You'll realize when you leave that Hoosiers are some of the friendliest folk there is, mixed of course with the South. And as far as politeness goes, that's about as good as it gets...
I'll never let a door slam on anyone's face, woman or man. It's just the way I am. But I'm blown away that when I flash lights at someone they just sit there. You see, nobody let's people over in Denver, they try to cut you off instead...race to the red lights...Ah, another thing, at least in Fort Wayne, the lights are timed...remember watching them all turn red one after the other on Clinton late at night...bling...bling...Nope, not here, You get a green, and the next one turns red...okay, enough about driving..
I guess what I'm saying is be careful what you wish for. You might get it. If you're looking for the way,
The greatest helping hand you'll find is at the end of your own arm...
Just make a plan, and do it...or sit and complain for years to come. One thing, though, a nice closing word, if you will...Don't be surprised if seeing the world makes you want to come home even more...
Good luck, fellow dreamers...

Ghostgecko - well said, very good post... IMHO, this speaks to many of the posts here - seems that quite a few people desire to 'witch' and complain about this or that, including about the place they live, when to my knowledge, the ability or inability to move to supposed greener pastures is more under their control than they'd admit. Don't like the place ya live? pffffffffffttttttt... get up and get out, or remain and try to improve it. Don't just yap and whine about how terrible it is.
As I said in an earlier post, Indiana, esp. this part where I find myself now, is not first choice - however, there is much here, culturally and geographically, of interest that I actually enjoy living here. There is saying - you are what you make of yourself,,, well, you are also what you make of that around you too; and in reverse: that around you helps enrich you too - if a person is of open mind, and allows such to do so.

Well said. I used to be someone who said they hated Indiana. After getting out, I realized that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Let's see once I moved to Arizona, I had a creep try to break into my house, was diagnosed with asthma, suffered from very severe allergies, had a stalker, suffered from heat exhaustion twice, and lost a job. On a positive note, I will say that if I had never moved to Arizona, I would have never learned this lesson.
I will likely move back to Indiana sometime this summer since I lost my job. Hopefully, I will be going back to school to change careers.

I honestly was not fond of Indiana growing up in the 1980s. But that has changed. Many things have changed for the better: Indy's downtown rejuvenation, new jobs in some key industries, Indy reinventing itself and and becoming a more 'modern' city (talking about getting lightrail), the Colts being a much better team, a new Indianapolis airport, some developments in NW Indiana, and some other things. I used to live in MI, but moved back in 1999 after a 5 year abscence. INDIANA IS MUCH BETTER THAN MICHIGAN. But the thing I hate most about Hoosirerville is their general shortsightedness and unwillingness to adapt to change. The economic landscape needs to change, along with being able to keep the educated from leaving. Indiana needs to do better in attracting jobs in industries of the future: tertiary industries, research and development, education, healthcare and high-tech manufacturing. I used to give Indiana a D in wanting to live there. Today its more like a C.

Why all the complaing toward the hoosier state? You guys dont know how GOOD you have it, living in Hoosierville. Look at all the starving people in Africa or people living in oppressive regimes in Asia and many other parts of the world. 99% of Hooisers have food in their stomach, a roof over their head, clothes on their back, access to healthcare (they have to treat you), and a car to get somewhere. If your life sucks, the problem is YOU and not where you live. And as far as the alleged 'lack' of jobs goes, thats not all true. You can find a job in ANY industry at any pay rate. The entire COUNTRY is going thru a bad economy right now. Do you think Indiana is alone! LOL! Why are you people so entitled? Perhaps some of you arent getting a job because you are either unqualified, dont have the skills they want, dont have an education, or maybe have a bad attitude. Indiana is no different than any other state. It may not be the 'best' state--whatever that means--but it certainly aint the worst. Just look at Indiana's neighbor to the North. Perhaps Indiana is just 'average'. So what?? The state has a number of things to see and do, or in a nearby city in a state next door. People need to get off their duff and look at the world around them. Ignorance isnt an excuse. Indiana is a very good place to live. Stop the bashing!
