Oh man...I'm itching to move back asap. I've lived in the dry, hot, and brown southwest my whole life. My stint last year in carmel was bliss: grass, trees, rain, no dust storms, and not as hot. Although the humidity a few times was so unbearable I felt like passing out. But it's worth it. Hopefully I will be leaving new mexico soon.

And just what is the 'good' life? Obviously to you it doesn't involve having a roof over your head, food in your stomach, a car to get somewhere, etc. The only 'good' life is having a relationship with Jesus and knowing you have been forgiven and on your way to heaven. My 'good' life has nothing to do with material possessions. Your troubles will follow you. The problem with this planet is called S-I-N. The trouble with you is who you see in the mirror and not where you live. How silly t think otherwise. You will be back in Indiana real soon. I used to think the same thing as you, but matured.

I'm not really posting this to rant or anything I'm just wondering what makes people like it so much? Is it something that I don't see or what? The cost of living is reasonable I guess but after seeing some other cities in other parts of the country, the Louisville area is far behind.
I am planning to move away to the Dallas/Fort Worth area within a year or two, likely permanantly. I grew up here and never liked it at all. I don't like the weather, it gets too cold in the winter time and the early spring and late fall are usually pretty much too cold too, making for about 5 months of cold weather. I don't mind the heat in the summer I just don't like the cold. Another reason is that I don't think there is much at all to do around here. I am a huge sports fan and hate not having any pro sports teams. Yeah you have U of L but A) I don't like them and B) I'm much more of a pro kind of person. The Bats are a joke to me although I would agree that they have made the best out of what they have. For triple A, the stadium is pretty nice. I just never did like it around here. Am I missing something or are the people too narrow minded to see that there are better places or maybe this is just where they are from and don't know any different?
I in no way am intending to offend anyone or start anything up... I'm just seeing if anyone else views it the way I do.

Yeah I would definately recommend checking out Indianapolis or moving further North. I am stationed down at Fort Knox, KY and go up to boring Louisville a lot. I am from Indiana and hate Louisville. Nothing to do and that area really isn't Indiana its more Kentucky lol! Go up to Indy and check it out, but definately Dallas is sweet too! I mean both Indy and Dallas are great cities. Louisville not even in my top 50!

Yeah I will agree with you Fort Wayne is not a jewel of Indiana. Try moving down to Indianapolis and you might see a little more to do. But before you judge Indiana check out the whole state. The Central and Northern Parts are flat but have alot to do and if you like the outdoors try Southern Indiana. I guess Fort Wayne is in the middle from what most people say.

I dont like Indiana and I would have left a long time ago if out of state college tuition wasnt so deadly expensive....i keep telling myself...just one more year. one more year.
sure, most family is here, but it's more worth my time to live elsewhere and be happy rather than to stay here and not be happy.
im not complaining though, i just want to get out and explore other things is all

I'm sick of all the complaining and negativity about Indiana. Most of you are seeking a utopia you will never find--anywhere. All states, all countries, all cities and all societies in this world have major problems. Its part of the human race. Happiness does not come from where you live, bu from the person you see in the mirror.
Most people in Indiana--probably 99%--have a roof over their head, food in their stomack, clothes on their back, and acces to healthcare and education. Hoosiers are richer than probably 90% of the rest of the world. Although Indiana doesnt have mountains, so what? Does that make the quality of life any less? Indianapolis is a good city. And its within a few hours drive of other cities in next door states you may want to visit. I like the hills and forest of southern Indiana and its covered bridges. Indiana is an excellent place to live and raise a family. As far as the eocnomy goes, we are in a world recession. Last time I checked, Indiana was part of the world. Stifle the criticism and grow up.

Abrasive but so true!
I do feel the youth like for example: babygirl, should get out an explore. They will find out that Indiana isn't that bad and that there is alot of not so nice people out there. It will be like a slap in the face, like a wake up call. Indiana is very unique and so is the people. Trust me, you'll be back

Does anyone else not like living in Indiana?
We moved from Las Vegas, NV to Elkhart (it was a month yesterday), and have had no problems adjusting. We do not particularly care for Elkhart itself, but as our knowledge of the surrounding towns and people expand so does our appreciation for Indiana. We like the area where we live as it has a nice country feel to it, it's peaceful, clean, our neighbors are really friendly, traffic is a breeze - neither of us have been "flipped off" by a crazed road raged driver. We have a yard that's larger than a postage stamp, we love the seasonal changes (so far), we have a garden for the first time in many years, the wildlife is abundant, there's a lot to do and the cost of living is incredibly low - contrary to popular belief. I know the economy is in the crapper and that Elkhart County is one of the hardest hit, but it will improve...the entire country is hurting. Moving to Indiana was like moving to a different planet, for us, and while we're here we're going to enjoy and take advantage of what the state has to offer. It is what you make of it. Now.....come February or March of next year, I may feel completely different!

Please clariify. I find Indy to be highly superior to Louisville and Nashville. It depends on your personal taste. My taste inludes major city status and feel, pro sports, central location, close to other markets, friendly people, good place to raise a family and affordable cost of living. Perhaps your tastest are different than mine.
