He is often told things like "We do things like this, in this country" or "I don't know how they do things from where you are from, but you are in the U.S. now!" These workers have been told that this manager has been in the country for most of his life but they just look at the skin color and go from there. Its kind of sad really.

Yes, parts of Indiana, especially small towns can be very unfriendly to outsiders or people that don't share a particular skin color. In my old high school racism was very common. I would frequently see desks that had the letters KKK carved into them. There were boys in my high school class that would happily fly the Confederate flag. I can't wait to get out of my hometown. It is quite backward here or something.
Fortunately, not all of Indiana is this way.

So....just a few weeks ago I was driving home from the University that I attend, and when driving past our local high school football stadium where a game was about to begin, I noticed a group of people waving a GIANT confederate flag in the tailgating area. The town I live in is almost completely white, and the team we were playing that night (our rivals) are predominantly an african-american school. Made me absolutely sick to know that these people were waving that flag in order to taunt the black players. Of course, NONE of this was mentioned in our local newspaper. The town is Huntington, Indiana by the way....

I just want to know why whenever somene tries to explain their reasons for NOT liking Indiana, they're hit with a guilt hammer. Its almost as if its somehow WRONG to state that you don't like it here.

Gideon said, sadly this is true, Indiana is probably the most racially contoled state in the union. Afterall, it is where the KKK was founded, pretty near where I live, history has it. Many speculate that communities, such I live in, where the demographics are diverse. but police are one color, white, that they are run by white supremist groups as the skin heads, KKK etc. Honestly, it makes one wonder, Why doesn't my community have any police of color and why are most of the white policemen bald? The same goes for the teaching staff. Personally, I think they are skin heads. They sure act like it often. SOme teachers have racially ofensive tatoes, as swasitkas etc, not good. This all being said is in NW, Indiana, a place that is suppose to be diverse; it is in population but not in leadership.
Indiana labor Laws are outdated also; this state does stink, truly. As in the 80's waitresses stll get paid $2 per hour and people tip 5 percent to 10 percent.

I would accept legitimate reasons such as "I don't like the snow, I can't find a job in my field, my family is too far away", etc.... But when someone comes on here with over emotional, exaggerated claims such as "Indiana is the most racial state in the union, all cops here are white & skinheads & the KKK was founded here (sorry Gideon, I call BS- check your history book- it was TN) & other things that have more to do with the posters personal issues & nothing really to do with Indiana- that's when they get called on it.
Certains areas in IN can be a bit "backwoodsey"- I grew up in far southern IN, I know- trust me. However, not all of IN is this way. I lived the last 12 years in the Indy area. I'm betting you will find these types of areas in almost any state. And instead of coming onto the state's forum & whining how much you hate it (sometimes with the very first post)- spend your time looking for a way to move or make yourself happier. And some people won't be happy anywhere- There is no utopia.

My father is staying with my sister here in Florida, because he is 88 years old, and now he is deathly afraid these 3 people will do it again or worse. He just lost his wife and is afraid to stay in his familiar surroundings because the Sheriff Dept and Prosecutor will not do what's right and protect him! Everyone in town is afraid of one family or bought off by them!

Quite personally, I like living in Indiana. I live in Fort Wayne and wouldn't trade it for anything else. Fort Wayne is by no means racist and I think that people who claim that Indiana is racist just have something against the state. Were not the best state, but were not the worst state either.

Gideon said, hogwash, it was Indiana. BTW, I guess you are white and have never had a cross burned in your yard. Indiana is the most racially controled state in the union, fact. I know friends that have had crosses burned in their yards, people who's business have been destroyed by Klan members or firestation members, whom useually go together. I can get peopel to testify that in the community where I live there are Klan members on the police force; BTW the entire force is white and most are skinheads. In a community as this, where the demographics demonstrate diversity, something is wrong with that picture. Would'nt you say? This is common in NW, Indiana. They excuse they always give is they can not find minorities to qualify; so in essence they are saying people of color are stupid. We have an old saying here in NW, Indiana, and that is anything south of the Mason Dixie Line is Klanish, and it is. The Klanish people say they do not like to come north of that line either. We know this by experience, so truthfully you have no say in the matter. I can show you twenty police reports of hate crimes committed, recently in southern lake, Newton, Japser, and Palaski counties, all south of that line.
When I was a teen growing up in the 80's the KKK burned a cross at a football game in Crown Point, but it was all in good fun, not meant to offend any. You are out of date, time, and race to realize the truth which only comes by experience. Recently they burned a cross in my Arab friends yard. Hey, wake up, the US has more racial problems today than it ever had. That is because they, the powers that be want it that way, in order to divide and conquer the masses of diversity.
