We were in Aiken in the summer and it was hot, but we're from Southern California and it's quite hot here in the summer as well. I wouldn't say that it was "brutal" though during the short time we were there. We will be going back this summer for a longer stay. Before actually building or buying we're hoping to rent for a while just to make sure it's where we really want to be. Asheville/Hendersonville, North Carolina, is another place we're taking a closer look at as well. Hendersonville was a wonderful town, but traffic was quite a bit heavier than I would have imagined.
