I played basketball against his daughter when I was in high school. Our town and school were as small as you could get (think Hickory). We were warming up and all of a sudden you hear loud mulling around, people running out into the lobby. There was George Steinbrenner there to watch his girl play some ball. The admission (this was in the early 80's) was a buck and he handed the girl a $100. She looked at him and said "I can't make change for this". He said he didn't intend her to and to keep it for our athletic department. After the game, he had several people follow him to his car. He opened up the trunk and it was filled with Yankee stuff and told them to help themselves.

Class move and people in my little hick town STILL talk about it. Oh, we won, btw

yep .. she played for CGA ... I think all his kids went through there. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Steinbrenner building on that campus.

I hope you took that opportunity to get George's autograph and a photo with him. He was the next best thing to Mickey Mantle.

George was quite a guy and he indeed loved almost all sports. He was even a volunteer assistant football coach under Bob DeMoss at Purdue.

Way to stayed focused domergurl. Did his DD act any differently than if she didn't have a well known father?
