Child custody lawyers
Hi. I no longer live in Indiana but my ex does and is trying to get custody of our kids. Our divorce was final in Columbus so Indiana has jurisdiction and I need to find a good lawyer. Can someone please give me some names of good lawyers. Thanks

Talk to an attorney where you are currently living. Regardless of where your divorce was, jurisdiction in custody matters is usually wherever the children live. Even if your divorce decree says that the Columbus courts retain jurisdiction, it can be transferred based on the residency of the children. Basically, get thee to an attorney where you are now, and let your attorney help you decide the best course of action.

Jurisdiction in custody lies with the court that initially determined custody. You have to file with that court to get it modified, and subsequently fight the modification in that court.
You should definitely get someone in Indiana who knows our laws, as they differ from state to state. Don't waste your money with someone from out of state, unless they can give you a free consultation and perhaps recommend a firm in Columbus.
Good luck

I guess I shouldn't have wasted all that money on law school. So sorry for chiming in on this, I sure hope everything works out well for you, OP.
