I got a job in Columbus, Indiana
I got a job with Cummins, INC in Columbus, IN. We are looking forward to moving to Indiana from Lincoln, NE. We have been looking to move in the Greenwood area. Family of 5: kids are 10, 7, and 2. Any suggestions out there for us? We would like to rent a house with a yard or something.
Also I'm trying to find some temporary housing while I look for a place for us to live. Apparently the races are the last week of the month and that's putting a hamper on my search. I did land a reservation at the Motel 8 in Columbus for the week of the 16th but that's about it. Anyone know of any short term living(2 weeks at the most that's near Cummins or Columbus even Greenwood.
Thanks for any info, I'm kind of scattered brained right now because I'm so excited.
Thanks

We just moved to Columbus from Fishers. We looked in Greenwood. Be sure to stay within the White River Twp schools (Center Grove). The twp is on the south end of Greenwood, so your commute will be better from there anyway.
We looked in the following subdivisions in Greenwood:
Somerset
Tremont
Willow Lakes East
Basically, we decided against Greenwood because of the restrictive nature of the neighborhoods we looked in. Going through HOA's for everything got old for us after having lived in HOA neighborhoods for the last 10 years. Columbus is different that way. Other than that, we really liked the homes we saw and our decision to live in Columbus instead was based solely on the HOA issue. Oh, and having a 3 minute commute to work for my hubby is nice too!
Best of luck with your move!

Thanks you all for the private messages and all. We saw a place online called Mansfield Village to rent a townhome but they are full . So does anyone know anything about The Overlook at Valley Ridge? We are currently looking to rent. It needs to be 3BRs or more. Any information is I'll be grateful for. How is the culture there in Columbus, coming from Lincoln there are not a lot of Afro-Americans around here and was wondering if Columbus was the same way. We are a Afro-American family that would be moving into he community and was curious about the best place for us to move too.
Thanks.

Columbus is interesting. From my brief tenure here so far, it's very kid centric. There's a children's museum, loads of parks a nice community pool and Cummins has a private park that is fabulous. They have concerts and festivals an various times during the summer. Loads of architecturally significant buildings and bridges too. A nice people trail system ... Indy, as well as cincinnati and louisville are close enough too.

Have you considered living in Columbus??? Personally, the rapid growth and traffic of Greenwood is very unappealing to me, and I live in Columbus with my family at a place called Tipton Lakes ( Tipton Lakes: History), and it is LOADED with folks who work at Cummins, NTN, Enkei, Toyota, Arvin.....
Columbus as mentioned is very kid centric, has a nice diverse mix of folks from around the world (Black, White, Brown, Yellow, you name it , is very safe, good schools, and a lot of cultural events all year long for adults and children.
If commute time is important, Cummins main office is about 10 minutes away from my home (SW side of Columbus), and my home sits on a lot with a fully wooded back yard where I watch Fox, Raccoon, Deer, Rabbits, etc play.
From what you describe concerning your family situation, Columbus as a home may be a very wise choice. Best of luck with whatever you decide, and contact me if you think I can be of help.

Short Term stays
Hello, My name is Julie and I am a realtor in Columbus Indiana. If you are looking for short term housing you may want to get a hold of Charwood Suites or Ramada. They do short term stays. If you would like I could contact these places to see if they have any openings for you. If so, give me the dates that you will be arriving and departing and I will contact the Manager of these locations for you.
Thank you,
Julie
