hey there! We actually live in Plainfield!! Is the settlement in a subdivision called Saratoga? There is actually another housing addition going in across the street and they are Ryland homes....we were looking at building in there but my husband is going for a job interview in CA, so we will probably be moving away I LOVE LOVE LOVE Plainfield!!!! I mean it's all American thats for sure! I've lived here all my life and only been in the basement once for a tornado....wasn't close to our house but a few miles away. The schools are all 4 stars, low low crime rate, VERY nice police crew! We just got a new mall...Metropolis (look it up at Metropolis - A Shopping, Dining and Entertainment Phenomenon) and that is nice also. We have like 6 parks, a water park, a GREAT workout place at the Water Park..it's called The Aquatic Center Um what else...we also have a Target, Walmart, great places to eat and shop. Close to the airport, but not too close....gosh ask me as many questions as you want!! Also when we went to look at the Ryland homes..the guy was telling us that Plainfield has some of the lowest taxes in Indiana! We haven't bought a home yet in Indiana so that was one thing we did not know....and this is very nice considering taxes in Marion county (Indianapolis).

Personally I suggest Perry Meridian. Plainfield is a great area. But I built a new Davis 4 bedroom home in Perry Meridian that I have not lived in yet and need to sell it because we are moving to Florida. My vote is perry meridian .

I wouldnt suggest Perry Meridian...the school system is a mess...and isn't that considered Indianapolis??? Marion county taxes...ouch!!

My husband grew up in Perry schools and it was fine then...but not now..no offense

I have lived in Indiana all my life 45 yrs. with the exception of here in S.W Florida for the past 19 months. There is nothing like home. Yes it cools off in the winter but its only for 3 months at best. Down here its miserable hot for what 7 months. Trust me you are making the right chice. I would not worry about tornados. Les chance of that than one of these crazy drivers down here. I go home at least once a month and somday hopefuly soon for good. So enjoy it. And get out of the city life with the kids and enjoy hte country. Visit Parke county. Nice place. Good luck

Just because a few people have never had tornado issues doesnt mean you wont..not to be an alarmist, but Ive lived an hour south of Indy my whole life and almost annually, we get a couple of tornados within a 50 mile radius, so its not like you wont ever have to deal with it, because you will, even if it is indirectly. Ive seen several in my life, my grandfather's home was destroyed when a huge oak tree uprooted and skewered the house. The twisters up here arent quite as bad as in Texas or Kansas, but we get our fair share of F2-F4's. More than likely, it wont happen to you, but to say it is of little concern is a tad foolish imo. Since your coming from Florida, the winters will seem VERY cold to you. Highs will be in the 30's, lows in the teens and usually there will be a week or two where it is absolutely ridiculously cold (last year it didnt get above 18F for about 10 days, with the low being about -5F..measurable snow occurrs on a bi-weekly basis, but nothing like you would encounter in upstate New York or Michigan..unless you live in the upper fourth of the state (lake-effect snow produces some 70+ inches of snow per year) you wont have to deal with encumbering snowfalls but maybe two or three times a year. Temperatures will start falling below freezing typically in November (sometimes, but rarely in October) and will stay cold until at least middle March..so a 3month winter as was posted earlier, is not entirely accurate..We do have a slew of days that will climb all the way into the 40's and even 50's (pretty rare), so you will get a little respite from the cold here and there...you will love the seasons, especially Autumn..crisp days with yellow/red/orange leaves abound! After the first couple years of adjusting to the cold months, I trust you will love it like most locals...I hope you find what your looking for in Indiana! Good Luck!
