Default Greenwood Crime Rate?

In looking through the data, Greenwood's crime rate is higher than most of the outlying communities. We are moving from Florida, but I am very familiar with the Indy area. I am a Hoosier getting ready to come home. Before we moved to Florida we lived the Eagle Creek area. I know all about the northern areas.

Geographically I like the Greenwood area, but the crime stats are higher than most of the areas I am more familiar with. Please I am not looking for, "it isn't that bad." It isn't so high I wouldn't move there, just wondering.

Comparing Greenwood to outlying areas is like comparing the center of a town area to a rural area. There are simply put more people and more businesses located in "Greenwood". So you have to compare apples to apples.

Greenwood contains the whole mall area, a big area off Madison of apartments, and a several strips of road with stores.

Are the crime statistics consisting of shoplifting?

Sweetana, thank you for the reply. I don't think of Noblesville & Fishers as rural areas. If so, I guess I don't completely comprehend Greenwood.

I understand it is closer to inner city Indy which your comment about a big area of apartments could lend to what I was looking for. Is this government assisted/lower income housing? My wife lived up by by St Vincents which wasn't the best neighborhood.

The areas of crime that seemed high to me were Assults, Burglaries, and thefts. This is somewhat old data 2005 and it has come down since 2000.

And to Zig'sbird, I am just seeing if there is anything that stands out to the people that live there. Not bashing, just trying to research an area that I am more than likely moving to.

Thanks for your replies!
