Default moving from germany to indy

We might be moving from Germany to the Indy area - my husband is German and I am American. I have been excited to learn that there is a strong German culture and German activities around the INdy area.

The job would be located just outside the beltway, NE - off of Hague Road. So we would like to minimize the commute.

Our children are 6 and almost 4 and we are most concerned with schooling. Does anyone have specific recommendations about elementary schools in either Carmel Clay or Hamilton SE school districts.

Separately we have been directed to the International School in Indianapolis, located inside the beltway. Does anyone have personal insight to this school?

many thanks!

We just moved from the HSE district and loved it. Too bad we moved because 2 of my 3 kids are your kid's age! My oldest would have been in 2nd grade at Fall Creek Elementary, which we loved. On the NE side, Fishers is more convenient. I have a feeling I know what company you will be working for. Carmel schools are very good as well.

The International School has 2 language immersions, French and Spanish. It's very pricey and a hike away from the NE side. It's a very good school.

Here's a link for the GAK for Indy:

Default thanks for responding

Thanks also for the link to the GAK - I will check that you. I have a couple of follow up questions. Might you share why you are changing school districts - or did you move out of the indy area. Also... why is Fishers more convenient?

Fishers is on the NE corner of Indianpolis, Carmel is on the opposite side. It doesn't make much of a difference, just a few more minutes of commute time. My advice is to visit both and see which makes you feel more at home. Carmel has more of a traditional down, but Fishers has plans for one. Our driving factor in choosing between Carmel and Fishers was the school system. While Carmel is a top school district, so is Hamilton SE, but the big difference is that HSE doesn't want any of their high schools to get as humongous as Carmel's one High School.

Carmel does have a more international population however.

You may want to check out Lawrence as well. It's directly south of Fishers on the NE side of Indy.

Deam, I will agree that once you get here you need to go to GAK. Although I don't go there often, it is a place that I enjoy.

I also know a few Germans here in Indiana if your husband has any specific questions.

Oh, I might add that on Pendleton Pike just to the west side of 465 is a wonderful German restaurant/bakery. Unfortunately the name eludes me at the moment.

I have been in Heidleberg Germany but not to the Cafe Heidleberg in Indy. how is the food and where is it at?

by the way the band in a club/restaurant in Heidelberg Germany knew how to play the Notre Dame Fight song. It was great listening to Germans playing one of the most famous Irish songs.

Dumb me!!! I was in that German bakery along Pendleton Pike over Memorial Day weekend. The German pastries were excellent.

the neighborhood gets a little shaky around there and I wouldn't want to go at night.

The GAK - had dinner there once, was excellent. Great people, service, and food. The surroundings, the landscaping was also very nice. Neat area. Like a little jewel in the southern part of Indy.

BTW, if you ever desire to make a ~5.5 hour jaunt to the west, you might like to surprise your husband and take him to Hermann, MO.
