South Bend just reported, after all said and done, that from Friday morning to Saturday night, the city reported an official 38.6 inches of snow that fell. Over three feet of snow in South Bend and about 32 inches in Mishawaka. However, just an hour away there is literally a tracing of snow. The magic of lake effect, I guess.

I took a stroll through the city, it is definitely worth the drive as the snow is piled up so high that you can barely see parked cars, signs, etc.

Just thought I would let our friends down in other parts of Indiana know

Well thanks for the update, and the reminder. A few times I have considered to live in NW Indiana to be closer to where much of my family members live, but when I remember the winters up there, I'm thinking "no way...I'll make the four-hour drive whenever I need to see you."

Talked to family up there yesterday ... it's no big deal ... unlike south of US 30 and Manhattan ... they can handle it.

I think the "snowthumb" missed Porter ... sounds like it imprinted itself in eastern laporte, St. Joe and Marshall counties.

My mom and dad are shopping in Mishawaka right now ... no big deal. Back roads are bad.

Those snowfall totals are not correct. The totals in some places, particularly the SB airport, were at 36-38 inches. Porter County did not get nearly at all. But, like Domergurl stated, we have snowplows galore up here. The side roads remain treacherous, but you can go the speed limit on major arteries through the city. It was quite a scene though for the time being.

Ha, a "heavy" snow event in southern Indiana is probably 4-6 inches. LOL At least it is better than looking at bare ground.
