Default How Is Granger For A Family?

A friend of mine visited a friend in Granger and came back with wonderful things to say about it. He had sad that it's beautiful, 1/2 hour away from Lake Michigan, and that Granger had a calmness too it, and is MUCH MUCH CHEAPER than New York thereby making the quality of life much better. Here in New York, stress is the No. 1 killer. My question is, are jobs available? It's the construction field that we would be interested in, carpentry, plumbing, etc. Also, is it family friendly? He seemed to think so. How is the healthcare system? Are doctors plentiful and do you have to travel far to get to one? How are jobs for college graduates? Do you have neighborhoods that you steer clear of? Hear, it's almost like playing the game twister, trying to avoid the bad areas. Do you have a drug problem in your high schools? I don't mean to sound ignorant but I understand that middle america has a big meth problem, is that true? Rest assured, we have drug problems here in our schools. I am not looking for utopia as we all know that is impossible.

Our biggest problem here on Long Island is stress. Most of us work hard and never have time to enjoy free time and when we have free time, all we do is get together and talk about how hard it is here. When anyone speaks of moving away from Long Island to anywhere else other than New York, you're bound to here, "what would you do there?" I'm so tired of hearing that. What is it that we do in New York other than work, work, work. I can count on my one hand how many times I've been to Manhattan. I have no time to see it so what is the benefit of being so close to it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Your stress level would plummet. Doctors are plentiful. Yes, Lake Michigan is close by. You are also close enough to Chicago if you need a big city fix and you can get there by train if you don't want to drive. You'll get more snow via the lake effect, but South Bend and Granger have the equipment to handle it. The schools in Granger are very good as well. It's not as exciting as NYC and you may have some culture and culinary shock, but you'll definitely be more calm.

Spend a week here see how it fits.

WOW. I see this post was read some 1,700 times but only two replies. I will take that to mean that Granger is a great place but you would like to keep it a secret. I don't blame you!

I grew up in Granger and it is one of the nicer areas to live in northern IN. If I were you I would stick with the Penn district area of Granger, I was in the Clay school district growing up and it has really gone down hill. There is more and more shopping and restaurants going into this area too.

You will like Granger. You should stick with Penn schools, they have great academics and excellent sports teams. The Granger northern part of Mishawaka is growing like crazy and it seems like we have one of each as far as resturants ans stores go.

I, too, am from Long Island and presently reside in TN due to my husband's job. My stress level went from a 10 to almost a ZERO within a year. My husband and I are considering a move to Indy in the future and was excited to find this forum site! Don't let anyone talk you OUT of leaving NY. It's ridiculously expensive and there is more to life than just work, work, work. Remember, you can take the person out of NY, but you can't take the NY out of the person!!!
