Default Commuting from Fisher to downtown Indy

I'm from outside of Grand Rapids Michigan and we are looking into several places as a possible relocation. The Indy area is one of them.

The job I'm looking into is located at Anderson, IN. A friend of ours used to live in Fisher, IN and told us to look into living in Fisher. I have heard the commute to Anderson from Fisher is approximately 20 - 25 minutes. Is that right?

Another question, more of my type of jobs in located in downtown Indy. If I work 8-5, what kind of commute times am I looking at from Fisher, IN? Is anyone on this forum making the same commute?

Many thanks!

Thumbs down Fishers is a Nightmare

I have lived in Fishers for 6 years. My husband has lived here 26 years. In that time he has watched Fishers grow from 2700 people to almost 60,000. This is not a nice small town. It is one huge parking lot. I drive to IUPUI every day. It is 24 miles by interstate and takes over 45 minutes at the speed limit. That is at 5:30 in the morning. On the way home it is well over an hour because of the traffic. Taking city streets is only 15 miles and at least an hour because of traffic lights. Do yourself a favor and don't choose Fishers. I live on the east side of Fishers and I can take 70 into the city in about 35-40 minutes. Having lived in Chicago and commuted there, that commute time isn't bad!

I love Fishers.

calling Fishers one 'huge parking lot' is a little of a stretch.

Fishers can have a lot of traffic but it depends where you live. We lived just off 96th street in the southernmost section of Fishers. From there you can get downtown in 25-30 minutes. The other northern suburbs (Carmel, Westfield) aren't any better in terms of traffic. In fact, I think they may actually be worse. Fishers is a great family-friendly place to live and the real estate prices are absolutely unbeatable. I've lived in six midwestern cities in the last decade or so and found Fishers to be by far the best in terms of cost of living and quality of life.
