Yes, and also of note is the extreme difference between the snow amounts that fall in Warsaw and then 30-45 miles to the north and west, in the lake-effect snowbelts. If you don't know what those are yet, I would do some research. They can dump 20-30 inches in one setting. Five minutes away, the sun can be shining with a trace of snow on the ground. Personally, I think it is one of the coolest, yet strangest weather phenomenons.

As RAC noted, don't worry about roads in winter. The Warsaw area roads are no better or worse than surrounding areas.

For commutable towns around the area, I'll do my best to give my opinion on some of the nearby areas. Opinions may differ.

Best Area Lakes - Tippecanoe, Wawasee, Chapman, Winona, Barbee (there are more than 100 lakes in the county; these are the popular big ones)

Commutable Towns:
Winona Lake - connected to Warsaw, small biblical college town with small arts / crafts scene. Check it out when in Warsaw, pretty cool.

North Webster & Syracuse - lake towns, 15-30 minute commute, busy in summer and pretty dead in winter. Nice towns with decent economies and restaurants, etc.

Leesburg / Pierceton / Silver Lake / Mentone - these towns are all short commutes (15-20 min), and small. Nice family towns with good schools, churches, community feel. Any of them are a good choice if you don't care about lakes and enjoy small town living.

Milford - might want to avoid this one unless you speak spanish.

If you long for a safe, conservative, family-oriented community you'll like Warsaw. If you're young & single, it's probably too slow for you. Look toward Ft Wayne if that's the case.

Best of luck!

Ok I have to ask; which restaurants do you think are decent or good in town?

Due to the location, Warsaw has benefited from having US 30 go through the north side of the city. It is very heavily chain oriented, but they have a wide variety of chain restaurants (and some local). Ruby Tuesday, Golden Corral, Applebee's, Schoop's (Local), Culver's. Anything in a typical, small city. Plus a little more.

Are you asking about commuting between Warsaw and Indy?

Indy to Warsaw is about 100+/- miles. I guess one could do it but that is a lot of time and miles to deal with every day. I would not do it.

I would definitely not recommend commuting from Warsaw to Indy. Just isn't logical. You will spend about four hours a day commuting. If you are looking for a bigger city, I would make the commute to Fort Wayne. Roughly a 35-45 minute drive to the western suburbs. Plus, the southwest side of Fort Wayne is the most desirable.

That's nonsense - all the roads are plowed!
