I don't understand why so many people are so negative about C'ville. It's a small town and there isn't a whole lot to do here, but it's close enough to Indy and Lafayette that there doesn't have to be. The upside of living in Crawfordsville is the low crime and traffic is never a problem. The most violent crime in Saturdays police blotter was one DUI and an arrest on a warrant.
The housing market is also much more reasonable here than it is in Lafayette. There are plenty of nice neighborhoods with decent home prices. We've got a great school system (at least it was six years ago when I graduated) in town and the county schools are better than most, too.
It is true though that if you are looking for a small town with a good college for women, you're in the wrong place. Wabash College is one of the points of pride for Crawfordsville, but it's all male and that doesn't do much for a female wanting to go to college.
The scenery is pretty typical. There are some hills, lots of trees, and Sugar Creek runs right along the North edge of downtown. There are several state parks within a short drive of C'ville and Cecil M Harden (Raccoon) Lake is about a 30-40 minute drive South-West of here.
