Talking possible relocation from metro detroit to south bend and seeking advice

Hi everyone,

My husband's job may be relocating us from the suburbs of metro detroit to south bend in the near future, so I'm hoping someone might have any suggestions for neighborhoods to look into, for good housing, schools, etc.? (NOTE: Believe me when I say I'm not sad to get outta there, our gas prices are among the highest in the nation and unemployment is awful out here!)

Oh, and p.s.: I have always been a Notre Dame fan (and I'm never allowed into my brother's house on game day!) !

My husband is looking to move to South Bend for his job also. I noticed no one replied to you. Did anyone give you information? We currently live outside of Detroit as well and I think we might have a better chance at a better life if we leave Michigan. Ive heard Granger is a nice place to live but also heard Mishawaka is decent. Ive also been told Niles and Edwardsburg, MI are good places but Im not crazy about living in a town with such a low population. Also Im sure you know our property taxes in Michigan are not exactly cheap. Indiana's seem to fair better.

Gas prices are actually cheaper in Detroit then here! I just returned from there last week... Life is slower here but I think you will like it! Your best bet will be the Granger area, which encompass the Penn High School district.

Default Live in Granger

We recently moved to Michiana after living in Seattle. After looking over most of the county we settled in Granger. We think it's got the best access to retail, with good school district Penn-Harris. Mishawaka is also wonderful, but it can depend where you go. Stay away from numbered streets in Mishawaka for the better neighborhoods. North of Lincoln way or South of Dragoon, tend to be the nicer neighborhoods.

Default Also a Recent Seattle to Granger Transplant

We've had a good first school year with Penn and do enjoy our house and neighborhood. If you search the recent Granger listings, I've posted several times regarding specifics in the area. Best of luck with your move!
