How can you record people that are not seeking unemployment?? That is next to impossible. The BLS is an accurate representation because it does the most that it can. It does reflect what is going on with the local and national economy. Any person with common sense realizes that it is actually somewhat higher but with no real way to calculate that, how can you estimate the actual unemployment? That would be more foolish.

My sister-in-law is unemployed, but not figured into the unemployment rate because she is not seeking work. You know why she is not seeking work? Because she is a stay at home Mother to 5 kids. By your logic, she should be counted in the unemployment rate, even though the economy has nothing to do with her choice to stay at home with her kids?
