Purdue University?
Hey!
I am graduating in December from Southern Illinois University, and was thinking about attending Purdue University's Vet Tech Program. Does anyone here know what the University is like? I was wanting to either attend Purdue or Joliet Junior College in Illinois. Thanks!

Purdue has one of the best, if not the best, vet programs in the country. I'm not sure if it would be more costly because you are coming out of state, but if you can swing it financially, you'd probably be in a better situation, jobwise, especially if you want to have more choices around the country.
West Lafayette is a great place too.

West Lafayette isn't a bad college town. Purdue is a good school. As domergurl said their vet program is very good.
The one thing that I wasn't prepared (from Illinois you should probably be prepared) is the winter. Man, its cold and windy. My first winter at Purdue was as a freshman after graduating from high school in Cairo, Egypt. I didn't even own a coat. I was walking to school with -14F windchills in just a sweatshirt. Then it would snow and these little cart things with brushes attached to the front would drive around and polish the ice so it was nice and slick.
I think Purdue is a little more conservative than some schools (well, compared to IU in Bloomington). There is a big agriculture school and of course the engineering school.
Lafayette/West Lafayette is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The surrounding area is pretty flat and farmy. Its an hour to Indianapolis and a couple hours to Chicago.

The ice polishers!!!! Loved those at IU!!!
I actually thought that Purdue was just as liberal, as a campus, at IU was. The campus just isn't at pretty

West Lafayette-College town
Joliet-not a college town, but close to Chicago......
West Laf is not a bad place to spend four years, I've heard the vet tech program is above solid and hard to get into. Hail Purdue, Boiler Up!

The Purdue vet program is for sure top three in the country, so academically you would be better off coming to Purdue. Apartments are very inexpensive around here, and there is a decent amount to do, (although not as much as around Chicago). As far as the campus, it is mostly closed off to vehicular traffic, and so is good if you are a pedestrian. The vet. sciences building is located on the far south east side of campus, and so is one of the more inconvenient to get to (most of the student parking is on the north side). This aside, Purdue is a very nice place to go to school.
