Exclamation Topps - Beef contamination with E-coli

Please make sure to see National headlines news for this:
"Topps Meat Company, based in Elizabeth, N.J., on Tuesday announced a recall of frozen beef patties it distributed. Twenty-one people in eight states, including New York and New Jersey, may have gotten sick after eating hamburgers made with ground beef possibly contaminated with E. coli bacteria, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

331,582 pounds of frozen beef patties and 21 products that were distributed nationwide have been affected, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Topps said."
Indiana is one of States to be affected by this incident.
God bless !

These are things to constantly keep a watch upon, still the bio-chemical threats are real as well.

Cook the ground beef to at least 160ºF. If possible, use a meat thermometer to check that it's cooked all the way through. Otherwise, check visually--red meat is done when it's brown or gray inside. Juices should run clear with no traces of pink.

When will people learn that there are two prepared temperatures for ground meats?

( Done and Well Done )

SAMS Club sells the Americas Chef which is also recalled. Maybe I am gambling, but I ate every last one of them and did not have a problem.

[SIZE=-1] Products Recalled:
Ground Beef Products (Ground Beef Patties)
Product Information:
The frozen ground beef patties were produced on various dates from Aug. 9 through Aug. 17, 2007. Each label bears the establishment number "Est. 924A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Products distributed to retail establishments and subject to recall:
  • 6-pound boxes of "American Chef's Selection Angus Beef Patties 18-1/3 Pound Patties." Each package bears a case code of "7703100" and various package codes of Best If Used By dates of "02/05/08," "02/06/08," "02/12/08," and "02/13/08."

I have a family member who is an executive in the grocery industry. "Just don't buy frozen ground beef" is the advice I was given. Ground beef has the greatest chance of being contaminated of any meat so your best bet is to buy it fresh and then cook thoroughly within a day or two.

I think this post needs to be moved to a separate thread. But yes, in Fort Wayne Indiana I believe the post office might be looking for letter carriers. You'll need to do an online job search to confirm and I also provided the address for the main distribution location and the general phone number. Good luck :-)

Post Office - Fort Wayne
1501 S Clinton ST
Fort Wayne, IN 46802-9998
Phone: (800) ASK-USPS
Fax: (260) 427-7346
Jobs at the USPS: USPS - USPS Employees

I hope that helps.
