We are currently looking for townhomes etc and found some quite spacious ones in anderson and am wondering how anderson is? Nice neighborhoods or where can i found those for families with small children? We are moving from ND to IN and wondering how far anderson is from indianapolis/greenwood. Any advice is welcome! thanks!

Anderson is pretty blue collar and hasn't weather the recession too well. That said, it's not a terrible city. I can't really tell you the best areas for families, but it's approx 25 miles down I-69 to I-465 in Indianapolis, though that's just the northeastern edge of Indy. So that means roughly an hour, possibly less from downtown Anderson to downtown Indianapolis. It would be a little less if you live close to I-69 which goes along the outskirts of Anderson. To Greenwood would be a longer trip since Greenwood is on the southside of Indianapolis and Anderson is northeast. From my house in Fishers, it's approx 25 minutes to Anderson and about 45 minutes to Greenwood. It would probably be a little over an hour from Anderson to Greenwood. During rush hour it would take longer since I-69 is a bottleneck coming into and out of Indy.

We enjoy Fishers. Traffic can be an issue during rush hour, but that's true all across Indy. Outside rush hour I don't notice much of a traffic problem. I-69 is hectic at any time of the day except perhaps 3AM but in a year the construction at the I-69/SR 37/116th Street interchange into the heart of Fishers should be completely and traffic should flow more smoothly. Fishers is mostly newer development having boomed from less than 10,000 people in 1990 to almost 80,000 people now. Thus a large majority of it is newer construction homes. The ares closest to 116th Street west of I-69 and along Allisonville Road are typically the older areas. Schools in Fishers, like most of Hamilton County, are considered some of the best in the state. I'm not sure how Anderson schools are. Fishers doesn't have as many townhomes as neighboring Carmel does, but those that do exist are typically much cheaper.

If you are talking about the distance to Greenwood, may I ask why you don't just move there or to the south side of Indy?

Was just opening up options. I am thinking of moving to greenwood/south indy just trying to find more options basically. Its hard to find what we exactly want in a decent price range. I noticed alot of apartments dont have garages. Which is one of the things we would like. A townhome with atleast 3 beds 2 baths ideally 4 and 2 with a garage...thats available which is becoming difficult

The suburbs of Indy and Anderson are like comparing night and day. The Indy suburbs have mostly new construction and considered highly desirable areas to live. Anderson is a blue-collar town that has seen its fair share of economic trouble. Numerous areas of blight in the city. Not ALL of Anderson is bad, but more is bad than good IMO.
