Crawfordsville, IN
I have a probable job interview coming up in Crawfordsville, IN. I have been to Indy & Lafayette, but never to Crawfordsville. So, any info you can provide for me would be helpful. Briefly, we are a family of 4, with 2 young daughters, searching for an open-minded community that is diverse & tolerant.
Thanks in advance!

I lived in Crawfordsville most of my life, Crawfordsville like any small town
that one lives in is what you make of it, on a personal base's there are
good and bad points. There are times I miss it, but not the weather, compared
to South Carolina. There are still industries there that have been in business
since the early 1900's. They recently got a Super Wal-Mart, and a Home Depot many people come in from the surronding counties to shop. There are quite a few churches and I swear there are more resturants than in any small town in Indiana. Several majors highways intersect Crawfordsville, so at times
traffic is heavy. Many of the families that live there have been there for
generations. School's about average. Overall I think Crawfordsville is OK.
Indiana is going through a proptery tax crises right now, but taxes in that
county are lower than surrounding counties. Lafayette is thirty minutes away
and Indy, is about forty five minutes. Several State parks close by.
Hope this helps

Crawfordsville is a community of all shapes and sizes. We recently added a new restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings, to the short list of restaurants available for sit-down-and-get-served-dining. It's only one of three major chains, the other two being Applebee's and Steak 'n Shake.
It's a great place to live and raise a family. Our high school is starting it's 12th year this year, I believe, so it's still pretty up-to-date. If you live on the outskirts and are in the North Montgomery or Southmont school districts, they both just got major upgrades so they are updated as well.
There really isn't a whole lot to do here, but it's not completely empty and it's close enough to Indy and Lafayette that entertainment is never more than thirty or forty minutes away.
I'm not really sure what you are looking for with diverse and tolerant but I don't think you'll get any more criticism here for anything that you would anywhere else.

I think Crawfordsville is nice enough. It is a small town and everyone will know your business after a while. Diverse and tolerant were two things important to you and having lived there 36 years I will say they are somewhat diverse and tolerant but it isn't San Francisco. I think if you are very far from what is considered norm you would stick out a bit, but it is how change is made.
