Default Questions RE: Bloomington Hospital & New Sub-Divisions

Hello.... hopefully I will attract some Bloomington, IN residents with this thread. We are in the process of considering a relocation to Bloomington, IN. I have gone thru and read all the Bloomington threads. Very informative and answered alot of questions.

I have two questions that I don't really see any comment on though.

1. Can anyone tell me anything about Bloomington Hospital. Specifically what kind of place might it be to work?

2. We have spent alot of time looking at Realtor.com and I think we really want to consider a new(er) home. We have had to move 3 times in the last 3 years and have spent too much time fixing and repairing and we're tired. We've always liked established neighborhoods for the landscaping and trees but we think we'll put the money into the landscaping this time around. We will spend about $250000 give or take $25000. We would like to stay in the Bloomington South HS area. Can anyone recommend a place to look? New homes don't seem to be on Realtor.com.

Thank you.

Hi there. I am a native of Bloomington and still live here. I was born at Bloomington Hospital and had my daughter there five years ago. Until last year, it was the only hospital in Bloomington. It is a great hospital and from what I hear, a great place to work.

Ironically enough, I graduated from Bloomington HS South, as well. Some advice to you would be to go to Real Estate Bloomington, Monroe, Owen County, South Central Indiana rather than realtor.com to look for homes. This site is exclusively for Bloomington and the surrounding areas and you can search for homes by school if you would like. There are some fairly new neighborhoods in that school district. If I had the budget you had, I would look more towards Lake Monroe area where you can get a fairly large lot and some privacy, but still be in a community. Anyhow, find a realtor on homefinder and contact them with your questions. I'm sure you will get a lot of information that way. I hope this helps!

Default Thank you!

Thank you so much for your reply. My husband will be working with an accounting firm there and I have a degree in nursing. I am currently working full-time but hope to pick up something part-time there. They have a couple of openings. I've never worked for a non-profit hosp before and was wondering how different the environment is. Also, it's a lot smaller than I am used to. We are currently in DC and there are tons of hospitals and other opportunities in the medical field.

We are looking forward to the move and will be coming out there to househunt next week. I will look at that website you suggested too.

Thanks again.

Hi! I was a nurse at BH for a short time in '98. Med-surg. I worked the 11-7 shift- all of us were new nurses. I think many Blmgtn nurses usu. drive to Indpls to work. There are usually many openings at BH. Shouldn't be a problem to find a job. I'm sure it's a fine place to work. I think it was a 200 bed when I was there. It has grown a great deal since I left. (Wow, hard to believe it's been 9 years.)

What kind of nursing do you do? If you know med-surg, well med-surg is bad probably most everywhere. Most new nurses don't stay around. It is hard nursing. As far as size, I'd rather work in a smaller hospital like BH than a large university hospital. I remember nursing school- too many different practitioners writing orders. I think mistakes are less likely with established experienced doctors than when you've got different residents, med students writing orders.

Oh, you might want to check out allnurses.com and see if you can get any response on the Indiana board.
