The crime stats do not match the criticism here of Section 8 = Unsafe. Can residents please provide more information about Anderson based on personal experiences and facts instead of vague, unsupported judgments?

Anderson is not really that bad of a place. 90% of the neighborhoods in Anderson are safe. Every town has it's bad parts and anything can happen anywhere at anytime., but I'm confident in saying there's a 99% chance you won't be a crime victim in Anderson. You'll be safer in Anderson than you would be in Indianapolis.

I think it's hwy 9 and hwy 32, that's a pretty nice middle class area. Edgewood always seemed pretty nice, it's like right across the street from Anderson city limits. So does Chesterfield, about 2 miles from Anderson city limits.

You look around, you'll find something you like. You'll also find Anderson's bad reputation is a lot worse than the town really is. And the people there are pretty friendly, down to earth people. It might be a little redneck, but redneck does not equal rough, or crime ridden. Rednecks are just a part of life in East Central Indiana. You're not going to escape it, and that's not a bad thing, either, because generally, Rednecks are a lot more fun to be around, than non-Rednecks.

One thing, most people in Anderson are not nearly as pretentious as alot of the people that live in the Northern suburbs of Indianapolis are.

Anderson? Run Away Fast. Anderson has decreased in population by thousands, The city is always trying to annex land miles out into the county just to increase city tax, Crime is high in every section of the city, The casino has broke up a lot of families and many people have became gamblers and losing money. If any one gets a twenty dollar bill they head to the casino instead of feeding their children and family. Welfare, section 8, food stamps and unemployment benefits is how people survive. Lack of Education is high. People there need re educated, A lot of closed minded people think the government owes them and blames there bad lives on everything in the world and not take responsibility for their own actions. Anderson will be the next Gary, Flint, Detroit.

I think you meant 10% are safe and 90% unsafe, right? Education is the key, get some.

Anderson Indiana is the only place that I know of where you seriously need to do a background check on your lawnmower man. Mine cut down some of my neighbors trees and is suing me. tress were 3" across and a section of about 20 x 30 and is suing me for 10,000 and he took it upon himself to do some clearing without permission. He was only to spray for weeds. $500 which I paid. ...poor people and crooks are abundant here. not that poor means crooks but crooks can take advantage of people with no money. This one just wants the property ..thank God I have money to hire an attorney ..some would not. Later I found out that he makes a habit out of nuisance lawsuits. So BEWARE of the Lawnmower man...he may want to mow more than your grass...

As someone who lives in and dislikes Anderson, I can tell you that you have never actually been to Anderson. Crime is only high on three roads: Nichol, Arrow, and MLK. Every other area is okay. West Central is where to watch out for crime, use City-Data maps. Edgewood is ritzy, filled with expensive houses. North side has ritzy houses and middle income families. South side is middle to lower income, but isn't really ghetto or crime ridden.

Surprisingly Anderson's economy is growing. More stores are opening up and staying afloat and less are going out of business. It won't become Gary, Flint, Detroit.
