I knew I'd get you at TJ's
I wish that Costco would move into Indiana more. As it stands, there are 2 in Indy and one in Merrillville (NW corner of the state). Ironically, both the TJ's are very close to both Costcos .. go figure.

Ft. Wayne has been an all-around super place to live for many, many years.
Columbus does an outstanding job of selling itself but has little to offer in the way of anything interesting. My brother-in-law moved from Seattle to Columbus about two years ago and has been bored ever since.
If you would consider Columbus, you should take a look at Greenwood. Constant growth is the only downside. Greenwood has an excellent school system - Center Grove - plus all of what Indpls has to offer just to the north. We've lived in Greenwood for 25 years and been pleased with it.
My number one choice in IN is Ft. Wayne, though. We lived there for 11 years and loved them all. It has some of everything but not too much or too little of anything. Probably its best attribute is that it believes itself to be a great place to live and therefore it is a great place to live.

Moving from Seattle to anywhere would be boring .... not a fair comparison. Sorry he's bored. Not to be defensive, but we aren't bored in Columbus.

Honestly, I can see how people find Ft. Wayne to be boring but there are places that are FAR worse.
You can be bored in NYC too. It really is what you make of it.

My wife and I moved from Melbourne, Australia, 6 months ago. Actually, we are originally from Bangkok, which is even larger and much busier than Melbourne. However, we enjoy living in Columbus as it pretty much has everything we need; if not, we'll just mail order them. I guess that it comes down to personal lifestyle as how much the person can make of it.
Honestly, had someone asked us to move to a larger city with, let's say, a population of 1 million+, we would decline their offer.

Thanks to you all. I have heard great things about both places. Still not sure where we will end up, or if it will even be in Indiana. A likely place may be near the Twin Cities in MN with a job transfer but not sure if we want that or not. We are all over the map about what we want, where we want to be, etc. It will probably boil down to where we can land a good job in a place we like. I'm glad to hear that you all like Indiana as I have never been there.

I live in Fort Wayne
I don't know about Columbus, but we moved to Fort Wayne 2 yrs ago, and it is allright. I personally miss Minneapolis. There is a few things to do here, but it does have a really small town feel, if you know what I mean. As far as the crime rate goes, I have researched it and per 100,000 people the crime rate is higher than Minneapolis/St.Paul combined. There also are not a whole lot of different industries here for jobs, if you do lose one.
The upside is the cost of living. I don't believe the Target on Illinois Rd is going to be a Super Target, I believe they stated it was only 127,000 sq. feet, most Super Targets are about 174,000 sq. feet. Also if you do move here make sure if you have kids to try and stay out of the Fort Wayne Community School District, bad test scores all over the board. We lucked out and are in the Fort Wayne Community School District, but ended up at one of the better schools. You can research any of the school at greatschools.net.

One thing I have observed is that Ft. Wayne is a friendly environment for illegal aliens. If that doesn't stop, you can kiss that all american home town stuff bye-bye in a short time. Anyone who has been to southern Ca. knows this. Once people realize it, it is probably too late and it's gone forever. As for Columbus, I don't know what their situation is.

Does anyone know anything about the Cummins plant in Columbus? I don't have a clue how to use this forum but am willing to try to learn. My son is going to be certified as a heavy duty mechanic and is interested in Cummins.
