Mount Vernon
I'm thinking about relocating to Southern Indiana. Is Mount Vernon a nice place?

Mt. Vernon is pretty a pretty nice place to live if you don't live right in the city. The worst part about it is the lack of choices for shopping. You have to go to Evansville, IN or to Carmi, IL to find even a department store (Wal-Mart, Target). Evansville is also a nice place to live and has lots of choices of neighborhoods. If I had my druthers, I'd live between Mt. Vernon and Evansville.

I lived in Northen Indiana about 30 years ago, and now that I'm getting older I'm looking for a nice quiet town to retire. Thanks for your reply  |

Don't!!!!
don't move to mt. vernon. it is the worst town you could possibly live in. i have been working there for 4 years, and it has been a nightmare. I had to move to evansville and make the commute everyday to work just to keep my sanity. the people are rude, and dirty. they think they are better than you, and yet they live in trailers and have no teeth. if you have to live in the area, stay in vanderburgh county. i hope i don't sound like one of the people i am describing, i just don't want anyone unsuspecting to have to go through what i have. i hope this helps.

Mount Vernon Indiana
tattohank, I have lived near Mount Vernon, Indiana all my life. I don't know what elpage is talking about and not sure he does either. Mount Vernon is a very warm community with a rich history connected to the Ohio River. The city has relatively low cost of living and low crime rate. The economny is mostly dependent on farming, oil, and employment at a SABIC Innovative Plastics(formerly GE Plastics) and Brystle Myers Squibb plant. Located just 20 minutes from Evansville. It is true that large shopping is limited but there are plenty of stores for majority of your basic needs.
p.s. I still have all my teeth and don't live in a trailer.
