Default Indiana...a depressing place to live??

A new study shows that Indiana is one of the most depressed states in the nation. So, what do you people think? What makes this place so depressing to people??

Indiana called more depressed than most states

Ridiculous assertion, and bad science, hardly worth calling a "study" much less a loose correlation of unrelated data. Furthermore all those observations are obvious to any reader of the article.

The more appropriate and much more accurate title for this article (and this thread) is that Indiana is ranked 39th in the number of mental healthcare professionals practicing within the entire state. As if any real meaning can be discerned from that.

Interpol76, I know you're itching to describe "again" in a new thread why you don't like Indiana... go for it. Tell us all why you're depressed. I'm curious to read even more about it.

It did not say that IN is one of the most depressed states in the US. It said that IN has a low rate of psychiatrists per population unit. Having spent 58 of my 60 years in IN, I believe that the reason the number of psychiatrists is low is because this is such a good place to live that we have a low rate of depression and so do not need a high number of psychiatrists here.

Default I love my state

I'm not sure why anyone would be depressed living here. Maybe I'm just in a better area than most, but I don't have a lot of complaints except that idiot in the governors office right now. Sure, we can't buy liquor on Sundays, but if you buy it on Saturday you can drink it all day long Sunday. Our state is home to the 2006 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts, and we have enough Wal-Mart supercenters to fill Rhode Island.

Sure, some Indianians are complete rednecks, but every state has it's 'odd' citizens.

I find it odd that Utah is the most depressed? Or is it that there are even fewer mental health professionals there???

Ridiculous assumption. I don't know if you actually live in Indiana, but Indiana has a lot more to it than corn, and even deer (which, by the way, I appreciate).

There are hills, forests, cities, *colleges* (see IU, you won't be depressed), culture, and beautiful mixtures of Midwestern and Southern architecture found scattered around.

Given I'm still in college, I'll move out of state after I graduate, but I'll always love the state of Indiana in my heart.

Most people I meet here are the most contempt with where they live out of anyone in the nation.

You ought to live in Florida. Wonderful state. High crime, terrible traffic, drugs, child molestors, aliens from everywhere, hurricanes, fires, droughts. Must I go on?! I wish I lived in Indiana!

I think it's remarkable that 3 top universities in the country are in this state, IU, Purdue and ND. For a state this size, it's impressive. Also, in spite of it's waning popularity, the Indianapolis 500 is still the greatest spectacle in sport ... I don't know, Indiana is a nice place to live and raise a family. I do think that everyone should leave for a little while though and see what else is out there. We'll always be here.
