Best place for outdoor lovers in Indiana
My partner has just been transferred to the Indiana/Ohio/KY territory by her company and we are trying to determine where we can find the best overall quality of life. We love the outdoors, (kayaking, hiking, skiing), but we enjoy small cities, too. We aren't really allied to one political view or another. More important to us is living among people who can agree to disagree.
Most important is friendly people (we've been living in a very non-friendly west coast city for too long). Diversity and community pride are pretty big, too.
But really, a good pizza joint would seal the deal.
Thanks! Any ideas would really help.

Good Pizza in Indiana is an oxymoron ... sigh. Yea, there are high end gourmet pizza places, but finding a decent orderitonthephoneandhaveitdeliveredpie ... nada. I live in Columbus and it could fit your bill except for the pizza part. Lots of hiking and biking at Brown County State Park and Hoosier National Forest. The city is a mix of blue and white collar and everyone gets along (or so it seems to me ... ). Bloomington is a wonderful college town with the same access to places that I have in Columbus.
I found one good pizza place in North Vernon, started by a guy from Chicago who got sick of yucky pizza... but he won't deliver to me in Columbus and it's a hike to get a fix.
Welcome to Indiana, don't let the lack of pizza scare you away!

Nashville IN sounds like it might fit the bill exactly, except for the pizza place. Right beside the city is the Brown County State Park. The park is huge and beautiful.

Avers Pizza in Bloomington is delicious.
Mother Bear's as said before, is delicious.
I'd avoid Pizza Express though, kind of tacky.
Pick up a pizza and drive twenty minutes to Brown County and pour yourself a glass of wine while watching the hills. Now that's a sight to behold.

Best Pizza
Best pizza is at the Popular Street Restaurant and bar in Seymour. Tues. nites is half price pizza and it's great pizza. Wonderful scenic drives over to brown county. American Bald Eagles are a popular and familar sight at our jackson County State Park just south of Brownstown. We have the large Mascatatuck wildlife preserve which is great for walks and hikes. We have a very good county fair each year, and our wonderful Octoberfest festival each year as well. Hop on the freeway and less than an hour North is Indianapolis OR less than an hour South is louisville, Ky. Take a short drive over near Madora, to see one of the last covered bridges still standing. Friendly Folks, Beautiful and scenic, and great pizza too!
