Southside Shrek,
The wind coming off Lake Michigan is pretty darn cold. Don't know about shorts and tennis shoes, I don't even wear that in Florida. I'm getting close to 50, so warm weather agrees with me more. Don't get me wrong I love Indiana, I go back every year usally during the summer.

Tattoohank
when I am in southwest Florida during the winter, I seldomly wear anything but shorts and tennis shoes. I am going back down there in a few weeks for Thanksgiving vacation.

Winters vary here. Some winters it's fairly mild (40 degrees with few snowfalls) while others it's pretty bad (more frequent snowfalls with at least 4 or so inch accumulations, ice, wind and cold-20 degrees or less). It's no Minnesota or Michigan, fairly mild compared to those places, but still it's so-so.

The wind there feels like it can cut your face, and I swore when I lived there that the sun went away for months in the winter, but the warmth of the people and the strong sense of community more than makes up for it.

I lived most of mylife up north. I am too old to play in the snow,it gets way to cold there. We moved to texas 4 1/2 yrs ago and when we visit family in Illinois or NJ,I am only warm when the butt warmer is on in the car or when I am in the shower. you will be cold!

the warmth of the people? sorry but i had the exact opposite experience. i lived in carmel for two years and not even one neighbor came over to welcome us to the neighborhood or waved when i was out walking my dog. don't know where those friendly people are but i did not see a one. now, the weather....when we moved it was -7 degrees. if you are coming from fla you will freeze your tail off.

Default I lived nowhere near Carmel

I was born and raised in NW Indiana outside of Chicago and didn't leave there until I was 30 years old. It is important to note that communities can vary from city to city and especially from county to county. Florida is the same way as far as variations in locality, but generally with the exception of the Tampa Bay area, that I have had personal direct experience with, Florida has warm weather with very cold people. I would gladly return to St. Pete or the Chicago area if I could get rid of my condo in Ft Myers. The best people I ever knew were in NW Indiana and in Chicago and its suburbs. People worked hard, took their friendships and families seriously, and looked out for their neighbors. I miss that.

i agree. we have relatives in chicago and visit the area often. the people are wonderful. don't know what happens as you travel south but once you reach central indiana, the people seem less friendly and very closed. i have traveled extensively and lived in a lot of places. this was a first for me.

I'm moving to NE Indiana from Rochester, NY. How Humid is Humid? I'm not concerned with the snow, since I'm used to 90+ inches/yr. Does Indiana get that much?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with an opinion!
Bundle up and make sure your car has heat. You'll be fine.

As a Native Fort Wayne resident, i think you'll get used to the cold with the proper clothing.
