relocating to Indy from Baltimore
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and just need some advice from the locals. My fiancee and I are both from MD and have lived here our entire life. (He has lived in Pasadena and I have lived in Baltimore City). He have considered moving a couple of times before but after looking at numerous things we feel as though Indiana may be the place for us. We are young, I am 25 and he will be 24 this fri. He works for Home Depot and I am well versed in sales, retail, customer service, and marketing. We noticed that housing there is VERY afforable and the crime rate low (compared to Baltimore which the is #2 with the highest crime rate). Can anyone please provide any insite? We are looking in Indy.
Thanks
Tesa

Hi Tesa, yes, homes are very affordable here in Indy compared to the rest of the country, actually, Indy is consistantly ranked as one of the most affordable cities to live in. There is a lot to choose from, it depends only on your preferences. Of course, I would be happy to help you find a home, my contact info is in my profile.

Plus we now have more of almost everything. More stores, more theaters, more restaurants, more good schools, more sports venues, more more more.
For example, we now have two Trader Joes. We have wonderful craft/sewing/beading stores. We have things like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel. We get Broadway touring shows. Loads of new malls to support the suburban housing boom. New businesses cropping up like the newly announced biggest in the world pharmacy benefit manager to be located just west of Zionsville on the Northwest corner of the Indy area. Woohoo.
There is everthing from historic houses, to wonderful little renovated and renovating neighborhoods, to suburban sprawl. RE taxes are quite reasonable compared to either coast and even some of our surrounding states. A young couple could find housing in interesting renovated properties from 85,000 to as much as you want to spend. There are even wonderful brick converted apartments in a good area for 60,000 to 90,000. If you are going to have kids, the more important thing is schools. Lots of great school districts. IUPUI is a good school for college and it has a lot of degree programs. Only one of many in town.
There are trails and even one thru town, Monon Trail, that was originally a railroad line thru town. There are now dog parks and wonderful low cost spayneuter groups.
I could go on and on. Been here 30 years or so with one short stint in NC. I was happy to return. Our weather has a full four seasons with a hot and humid summer and a cold and sometimes snowyslushy winter. But the only thing you can count on is that they will end and it will change.
Dont have a lot of skiing but have good flights out to anywhere you could want and an airport that is being renovated.
Cost of living is low. So come on down.

You can search www.mibor.com for the Indy area MLS. That's a great place to start!

Don't tell me folks from B'more still hold a grudge about that! Hey, they won the superbowl, so something must have clicked! Who needs Johnny Unitas anyway!

You should have seen the Colts/Ravens game a couple weeks ago. They had a little clip from the 1960s showing people's reactions to the Colts leaving. And they won't put Colts on the scoreboard; they put Indy.

No! Maybe some of us, but not me. I actually like the colts and was very happy for peyton last year. (However, you have to have respect for Johnny, he was a great player).
