Hi everyone. We are looking to relocate around the Evansville area. I have read and read about Evansville and it is kind of confusing to say the least. East side vs. west side etc. I have looked on here for other posts and they either don't have enough information about things I am looking for or the posts are so old I wonder if it is still the same. So I'll tell yall a little about us and hopefully some of you can point me in the right direction.

It is me, my husband, our 10 year old son, and our 7 month old daughter. We don't go to bars or party and shopping is not a big thing for me other then the grocery store. My son is heavily involved in sports. We live just outside a decent sized city with a population of almost 200k. The community we live in is very small and close knit. It isn't uncommon to see 3-4 people you know every time you run up to a convenience store. We don't live in what some would call the "country" but we are still far enough from our neighbors that you couldn't throw a rock and hit their driveway with it haha. (Do you like how I measure things? lol) These are all things we like about where we are at and would like to find something as close to this as possible.

I am looking for a safe neighborhood first and foremost. Even if it isn't quite like what I described above, we can adjust.

Secondly I want my kids in a good school district academically, a good sports program would be a plus but academics come first.

I would say we are middle class, so the million dollar homes are out... although that would sure make this easier.

I read somewhere that some parts of Evansville (or streets) are prone to flooding. Is it just random streets or are there complete areas to watch for?

Also one of our dogs is a Doberman. Without getting into the great debate about Dobermans, are there any special restrictions or laws I need to know for having a Dobe in Indiana? Here they are treated like any other breed for the most part but I just wanted to make sure.

Also are there any laws as to how many pets you can have? We have 3 dogs and a cat.

We don't have to be so close to everyone that the grocery store is across the street. As it is now it is a 15 minute drive just to get to a fast food restaurant or the grocery store, and that is fine with us. We like our space from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Are the people friendly? Or do people just mind their own business when it comes to newcomers?

Also are there areas to stay away from completely? I know here you can't drag me to some parts of town, even though they don't look as bad as they really are.

Surely there is some place around Evansville that is for us. We probably won't have a chance to go check it out before we move (and that is driving me crazy because I don't like doing things without knowing exactly what I am getting in to). If you have any questions just ask. Hopefully I haven't confused everyone with my jumping around.

Also if anyone has any pictures of the Evansville area that would be great!

Thanks for your time!

I would say west side, but the west side is almost exclusively people who grew up there and never left. There are other area close to what your looking for that are not the east side. I just haven't lived there for so long I forgot.

There are a lot of places just outside the Evansville city limit in Vanderburgh County and Warrick County that would fit this description. North of the airport along Hwy 57 and into Damrstadt would be places to look. Anywhere along the Lloyd (Hwy 66) in Warrick County too.

I don't think so.

Sounds like the area by USI on the west side is a nice fit, most of it feel rural. That area there will be a supermarket and a Walmart with a good amount of restaurants, but most of your shopping and entertainment will be on the east side, which will be 20-25 mins away or more depending on traffic.
