Good Luck with your move to the Fort! I've lived in NW Ohio all my life, where the most exciting thing to do was drive to Fort Wayne!! I think you'll find it a great place to live, especially if you came from a small OH town. Good Luck!

And, if you're really looking to slow down the pace of life, consider moving to a small OH town. Antwerp is only about 25 minutes from Fort Wayne, and with the new US 24 project progressing everyday, it will be a safer, quicker commute. There is NOTHING to do in the small towns here, but if you would like a slow pace...this would provide it!

I'd try to stay as close as I could to Fort Wayne. With gas prices running amok moving closer to work is starting to become the best option.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and input. Fort Wayne sounds like a terrific area to be. Unfortunately, Raytheon has not seen things my way. I did not get the job in Fort Wayne. I am somewhat disappointed, but I did land a position somewhat close to my family, (at least closer than California.) I accepted a position in Falls Church, VA. Nothing like Indiana or Ohio, but at least I will be out of this God-forsaken state. VA is not what I had in mind, but the very generous pay raise will compensate. I made a trip back there for my interview and got to take my wife. She liked it, so I guess that's all that really matters. I am hoping to live somewhere in the Manassas area, which seems to be a little more country. I like that. So again, thank you all for the great comments and I wish you all the best in Fort Wayne!

Xlr8r - sorry to hear about that; but good that your wife is happy, and with your positive attitude both, maybe this move will indeed be a "lemonaide out of lemons" endeavor. BTW, surprised at this, as have heard quite a few radio ads of late, plus their own web site too, mentioning job fair weekend before last, hiring engineers, etc. Oh well, think of it as Raytheon's loss, is VA's gain...
Best of luck to yas... ![]() |

I own a house in the historical are that you are talking about near Rudisill. The houses in that area are beautiful and have always loved taking walks and looking at them. There is however a fine line between those houses and the edge of the area you want to avoid owning in. My house is on a 2 block one way street and all my neighbors looked out for each other. It is a very diverse area also. We did have a few issues with my son's scooter (2 of them) and his bike being stolen.
I grew up in the country and in Indiana so when moving to the city was a bit of a shock when people stole right out of your yard. We learned to lock things up and keep an eye on things. I do not live there any longer, but still own the house. Let me know if I can help with any other info! |
