Possibly moving to Northern Indiana, can you help me? (Gary: cheap apartment, to rent)

I´m a 25-year-old male who is possibly moving for work to Northern Indiana (Merrillville) later this year....

Could anyone please tell me how much would it cost to rent a nice and cheap apartment for a single guy like me?

Your answers will be greatly appreciated.

Reasonable depends on what you are used to paying. Merrillville is as close as you can get to the rat hole called Gary without living in Gary. Therefore the rents will be a little less than if you get a little further from Gary. Crown Point, Valporaiso, Chesterton just to name a few. I grew up in Gary and i pity anyone still stuck there! Whereabouts in Merrillville will you be working?

Look for an apartment in Schererville. It's right next to Merrillville and only a 10 minute drive, but Schererville is MUCH nicer and safer. It was just ranked the #71st best place in the U.S. to live (Wikipedia search it). Merrillville, isn't bad, but it has it's shady area's and also border's Gary. Don't stay anywhere north of US 30 in Merrillville if you do live there. Crown Point is also very nice and only 10 minutes away.

You could find a 1 bedroom apt in the range of $500-$700, or a 2 bedroom for $700-$850. If you saw an offer for anything less, I'd raise an eyebrow to it. Check out Sherwood Lake Apartments in Schererville. Or even closer, check out Hidden Creek Apts in Crown Point (219-769-1203). It's less than 10 minutes from Merrillville (just down the street a few blocks).

Thanks for your answers, I´ll probably be working near the Hooters restaurant, don´t remember exactly the name of the street....

I've been to the area before and I liked it, besides it is close to Chicago....I will take your comments into consideration...
