DINK= Dual Income No Kids.

I like the west side of Indy, plenty to do, quick commute, reasonable prices, great schools.

Does anyone have any input on investment properties? I was thinking of buying fixer-uppers and then renting or selling.

There are a lot of good homes around here for investments, but there are also a lot that are already available to rent too. Especially with bank-owned homes and HUD homes, there are lenty in the area. You just have to find the good values.

To emg35, I would suggest concentrating your search in Carmel, best schools in the state. Just north of Indianapolis.Indy is an excellent area to invest in real estate, lots of rehabbed duplexes for around 85,000, good cash flow. Check out this company gogladiator.com they specialize in investment properties and are based in Indianapolis.

Oh, then we are lifelong DINKS

I think if I had to live in Indiana I would go to Ft. Wayne, South Bend or Evansville. Those are nice towns. SB is a little rugged in parts, but overall it's a nice place.

Hi!
I always tell my out of state clients a good comparison for cost of living from state to state and city to city are three things:
1. Cost of a gallon of milk
2. Cost of a can of coke from a vending machine
3. Cost of a year's worth of homeowners insurance.
The thing is - real esate might not be that much cheaper in the area you choose to live in Indiana vs Ca but it's the little things that totally ad up. Gas prices, school extras, homeowners insurance, real estate taxes, groceries, etc.... That's where the big money is spend in a monthly budget.... Indiana is a great place to call home. Safe and sound.
Carrie
