Default Tornados, ethnic tolerance

Are there any area in Indiana that is free of tornados? I mean, free of weekly alarms.
I am a doctor and looking for relocating from Chicago. I am a legal immigrant and looking for a nice, safe state to rise children. Good schools, educated people is a plus.
I am concerned about some posts here that talk about ethnic intolerance in Indiana and the tornado thing.

Indiana has a history of tornadoes. This is the Midwest. As for racial tolerance, it all depends. Indiana's history is checkered in racial tensions. Indiana was a Klan state in 1925(the governor at that time, David Curtis Stevenson, was the Grand Wizard of the KKK in Indiana).

The chances of being hit by a tornado are very slim. Most houses have basements where you can seek shelter just in case one hits.
As far as racial intolerance, I would say it is more pronounced south of Indy (Indianapolis)
NW Indiana has an ethnic makeup similar to the Chicagoland area, and there is no problem. In other words, I would stay in the northern half of the state ,including Indy, just to be safe. That is not to say that Indiana is a racist state. But there are some small pockets of people that still think backwards.

Holy COW!!!! DC Stephenson was NEVER EVER EVER EVER governor of our state. Shame on you for flagrantly disparaging our state with such a statement. There's a word that I suggest you look up and utilize next time you want to post such misinformation on this thread:

RESEARCH!!!!

Ok, DG... deep breath.

Weekly tornado sirens ... huh, who is telling you that. I think I can safely say that there are many weeks that go by all over Indiana where there is nary a tornado siren. There are better reasons not to move to this state than fear of tornados. It's not different than downstate Illinois. Get a house with a basement and a weather radio.

Good schools overall, are located in and around Indianapolis. There are also good schools just across the border in NW Indiana and most of the large metro areas. Educated people. Again in the larger metro areas would be your best bet or in the college towns of Bloomington and W. Lafayette.

Racial tolerance. Yes, Indiana has a history, but if you read through some of the threads here, you'll see a balance.

what cities are in the NW?
Which are the best to live?
I have heard about Columbus, Fort Wayne.
Where do professionals live more?
What ciities offer suburb like life style, good schools (private or public), restaurants, museum, low crime?
Maybe gated community houses?
Budget for an annual income 170k/year.

Correction, he was a powerful political figure, but there were alot of politicians in the KKK at that time.

Munster, Valparaiso, Chesterton, Crown Point ,St. John, Scherrerville, would be in the top of my list. The schools in these cities are all very good.
Don't go to Gary, Hammond, Griffith or East Chicago.
By searching this site for each of these cities, you can get most of the information you need like professionals e.t.c..
You wont find the culture of Chicago, we lack museums e.t.c., but most people go to nearby Chicago for that. There are plenty of good restaurants, just pick one.
Crime is not a major problem in the cities recommended. I believe each one has gated communities. You will also find that it is much cheaper to live in Indiana. You will see a big difference in housing costs and taxes.
I am sure domegurl can add much more to what I said......

Indianapolis has some great museums, a nice zoo, and plenty to do. I live in a western suburb of Indy, and the schools are great. There are great areas in Avon, Brownsburg, Plainfied, Carmel, Fishers... check around.

You can search homes in central Indiana by going to MIBOR | Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS®, and you can also search on my website, it is listed in my profile.

I've heard good and bad things about Griffith. What's wrong with it? Has it been affected negatively by its close proximity to Gary?
