Default Jasper, Indiana

We will be moving to Jasper in a couple of years. The crime rate seems really low. Can anyone tell me more about this town?

sldetty:

- The crime rate in Jasper is very low, yes. However, the number of illegal immigrants is increasing, leading to more drug related crime and violence
- The schools in Jasper are very good, especially the high school. Sports are huge
- You can get a ~1100 sqf house in the city for approximately 120k
- People are very friendly and not as conservative as in other areas in Indiana.
- Most people in Jasper are catholics and immigrated from the southwestern Germany
- Patoka lake is about 30 minutes away, ideal for water sports and family trips. See http://www.patokalakeindiana.com/
- The landscape in southern Indiana is very pretty if you like rolling hills and lots of forest
- Jasper is a healthy middle class town with few white trash and some wealthy people

Hope that helps,
Chris

Hello, I am a real estate agent that is located in Jasper. I work Dubois and the surrounding counties. Jasper is a wonderful place to be. In all honestly, it is a very good community to raise a family or to retire here. We are within an hours drive to Louisville, Evansville, Bloomington and several other towns.
These are the locations with the malls and larger shopping centers. We do have good stores around here, but no malls. There are major manufacturers here in Dubois County. Masterbrand (Aristokraft, Decora) Cabinets. Kimball International, Jasper Engines and Transmissions, as well as a college (Vincennes University-Jasper Center) that offers many degrees. You will find Dubois County as one of the most welcoming counties around. It is very clean, and the property owners care about their surroundings. Farming is a major way of life around here also, and not just limited to Dubois County. If you would like anymore specific information about Jasper or surrounding communities, just let me know. I would be happy to help you with your move. Have a great day.

Thanks for the info on Jasper. Our school system is 60% percent Hispanic, 28% white, the rest is split between Black and Asian and other. I like the percentages I read for the Jasper community. Where I live in Kansas there are no trees, flat land, you can see for miles. It doesn't rain here very often. I'm looking forward to our move. We are waiting for our son to finish high school, although I would like to move now.

I agree with those who posted positively about Dubois county . It's a terrific community, especially around the village of Ferdinand. Huntingburg is pretty and friendly too.

This post is getting close to being a year old...so has this town changed much since then? Like more drugs & illegals? Just curious, because it sounds like a really nice community.

My fiancee & I are moving to Jasper in mid-December for my job with Norton Abrasives and we are looking for a 2-3 bedroom house with a basement for rent. Does anyone have some info for me? Thanks.
