My boyfriend wanted us to move to Florida or South Carolina. I had hemmed and hawed on this for two years because I do not want to move over there. Suffice to say, I'm glad that we don't live over there now. If it's not the humid heat, snakes, alligators, etc, it's this Category 4 hurricane slated to directly hit over there.

Hurricanes are the natural disaster that gives plenty of lead time. It can suck, no doubt, but having lived in 3 different states that are known for 3 different national disasters - 17 years in the Midwest around tornadoes, 2 years in the Bay Area with Earthquakes and 5 years in Orlando around TS/Hurricanes, I can say that if I had to deal with one of those, I'd choose the Hurricane.
My MIL is in the process of hunkering down right now right near where the eye is supposed to come closest to landfall of Matthew, and had her hurricane shutters ready to go, water in the bathtubs filled up and has plenty of extra cell phone batteries.
I've seen the destruction of tornadoes in Louisville, Joplin and OKC. I talked with older residents in SF about the 89 earthquake and how little warning you get with those. I can't fathom living in the Midwest without a basement now.
The worst part about the Hurricane would be dealing without power in the heat and humidity and potential flooding issues.

I'm embarrassed someone from Indiana would make any of these crappy comments or even start this pointless thread. 12 million Americans are in danger right now, and people start this "my state is better than your state" nonsense. What the heck is wrong with you people?

Umm you do realise Florida has a reputation for a high amount of registered sex offenders, right? Please refrain from foot shooting.

No matter where you go in this country, there's always a chance for natural disaster.
Much of the East Coast and Gulf Coast there's hurricanes.
South and Midwest, there's tornadoes, earthquakes and sinkholes.
Texas you get hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, flash floods, droughts.
Southwest you oppressive heat, dust storms, wildfires, and I don't know what else.
West Coast you get earthquakes, flash floods, forest fires, avalanches.
Rocky Mountains you get avalanches and blizzards and wild fires, and I would imagine high amount of lightning strikes, and the occasional volcano eruption.
Northeast and North Central you get dangerously bitter cold temperatures and blizzards, snow drifts up past the roof tops.
One of the most wicked natural things I ever seen in my life was one of those clouds of dust rolling into Phoenix one hot afternoon a couple of summers ago . It looked so thick I don't see how anybody caught in one of those storms could possibly see or breathe.
No matter where you go in this country, there's always a chance of some kind of natural disaster that can strike. I don't know if there's any country on earth that has the variety of natural phenomenons and violent weather that the United States has. I look for a tsunami to hit this country before too long, the way temperatures are rising and all this crazy violent weather we been getting from one end of the country to the other.
I sometimes think it's Karma.
