Columbus is growing thats for sure. with the new 500 downtown cummins jobs with really high paying salaries, with that the building of the new commons. first financial bank is building a brand new building downtown as well, and thats going to be huge aswell.

But we could improve after this 20/20 vision downtown project is done, we could build a college/university with a nice campus. that could atract more people and buisnesses towards us with a better education. there are a few fields on rocky ford road that are surrounded by urban development. if we could buy one of those fields from their owner, we could put a nice, well funded, good educational 4 year college there.

i dont have anything against ivy tech, IUPUC, and indiana business. those serve us well. but its all about growing columbus into a more educated community.

just a thought.

What would we call it? I don't know tallg ... sounds like a good idea, but you can get a 4 year degree at IUPUC already. Maybe they could absorb IUPUC into Columbus and rename it kind of like what Evansville did with the old ISU campus in their town. Remember when University of Southern Indiana was ISUE? Take it up with the Mayor. It would be a great legacy for him.

Just to play devil's advocate: exactly who is going to be funding this project? With recent changes to the Ivy Tech system, IU and PU regional campuses, etc. people throughout the state are pretty well served with the current options for both 2 year and 4 year colleges. With the exception of the southwestern area of the state, most residents are within a "county" or two of a public four year university. As a taxpayer I see no need for a further public expansion into Columbus.

Columbus would be better served by building a four lane highway from the city to Bloomington than it would trying to build a four-year school.

SR 46 offers some beautiful scenery and views, but is frustrating as hell since it's a two-lane highway, and is downright near a deathtrap in the winter when the roads are icy.

Totally agree! I severely curtail my trips to Bloomington because of 46 (esp in winter/leaf looker season), and it would be an economic boom for Bloomington to have a relatively high speed/fast access way to I-65 via Columbus.

I also hate that trip from Bloomington to Columbus. Given where I live, it takes more than an hour for me. Forget about it if you get behind a slow driver...
