Default Greencastle Public High Schools?

We are considering a move to Greencastle. Our son will enter high school in 2009. I see there are two high schools -- the Senior HS on Washington St., and South Putnam. What is the diference between the two, and how would you rate the schools overall? Thank you.

My husband and I graduated from Greencastle High School and my mother in law works there. The school is awesome for what it is. It has changed quite a bit since we graduated in the mid-90's but our girls are in the school system {one in one of the K-2 schools and another in the 3-5 school so we keep an eye on things. The teachers we had are slowly retiring but the ones that are left are awesome and really care about the students. There is a bit of the good-old-boy network involved, as there is in much of Greencastle in general.

South Putnam is about 15 minutes south of GHS and is a whole different district. Aside from slightly better athletics most years and an aquatic agriculture program, there's not a whole lot of differnce except if kids are prone to skipping school, there's not a whole lot around South Putnam that can be walked to unlike GHS which is a short walk to just about everything in Greencastle. I have been told by friends that South Putnam is more strict and the good old boy thing is worse, but have no first hand experience with that.

I graduated from GHS in 1999. I was in all the honors classes. At the time (I obviously could not speak for the school now, and haven't been back in town since I left school) it was a really good school with (mostly) great teachers. Some of the management was less than stellar, and some of the really good classes (Interdisciplinary class was amazing, but it only lasted one term) get pulled too quickly. All in all it was a good school for those wanting a good education, and they had a program in place that allowed students to get college credits at the university if they were so inclined.

I really have no clue about South Put.

I will honestly say I haven't gone to either schools in question, I am only telling you what I hear from the kids my child hangs around, and some parent that had there children in Greencastle Special ED classes. Yes I understand this is all her say so I suggest to see if you can talk to kids your childs age. Just to say the information I have heard from anyone about those schools, I would not put my child in those schools.

I moved to Greencastle last February and was there until July. South Putnam, as far as I know is a great school... my cousin went there but he got kicked out because he had prescription drugs on him. My cousins graduated from Greencastle High School and never had any problems. They are very smart kids and were involved in a lot of activities at school!
