Property taxes
Anybody elses county sending them out late again? Ours says the state hasn't certified the rates so the spring's won't be out until July. But that hasn't stopped them from asking us to pay early without the proper paper work.

Yep, Bartholomew County isn't sending them anytime soon ... sigh.

My "inside" sources tell me that the state has not sent out any county certifications. Most counties will be sending bills out in June/July. Just ridiculous in my opinion.
If I ran a business this way, I would be bankrupt!

I may be wrong, but aren't they going to be late because of the recent decision/vote to offer rebates/reductions in property taxes? I'm not certain of it, but I know that decision/vote was reached recently. I haven't paid IN taxes in years, though, and it sounds like this has happened before.
BTW, are you guys really going to get rebates/reductions? We're getting ready to build in Gibson County, and I'm wondering if our taxes will be less than those houses only a few years older, or if we should expect to pay out the wazoo for an acre and 2000 sq. ft. I've looked and looked online, but can't find rates for Gibson County.

I don't think that the rebates have anything to do with it. Those were sent out already. The reduction might, but I doubt it. It happened last year too, at least in Monroe County.
Your taxes will not be less than houses a few years older if it is assessed at the same value as the older house.

Duh. I just realized how odd my question sounded. What I meant to say was that if the ones for sale I've seen are taxed at the old rates, does that mean the new rate would make our taxes less. But I didn't realize this isn't the first year for the reduction. Okay, I think I'm on the same page now. Thanks!

This is our 3rd year in a row of our taxes getting sent out late. Part of our problem is 2 (out 6) different school district's residents in my county are split/share 3 counties. So if one is late then it makes our county late. In the mean time places that depend on our taxes to operate have to borrow money and pay interest like the schools and libraries. So we (the tax payers) get double whammed. Last year I didn't get my taxes until the last of Oct and both spring and fall were due Nov. 10th. The lateness was because of the way the state made every county re-access differently, then a new tax software change over and now this year the state not getting the counties tax rates certified.
Just let all us Hoosiers be late in paying think they would forgive the penalties? Now this year's taxes due in 2009 will be with the new lower property tax relief they just passed in 2008. Or is that the taxes the state didn't get certified? Are ya all still keeping up here.

You'll have to call the Gibson County offices. Each county is different. Monroe should be out soon. I've seen ours on a website--down, yippee!
