Well, I don't have any regrets and as much as I don't like living in Indiana I can honestly say it's better than some other states. I have grown quite a bit during my experience. I learned alot. I will probably never be able to say I love Indiana, but I don't have a burning hatred for it anymore either. It has it's good and bad but most of all it's affordable and livable. For now, it's home and I'm ok with that... for now. In a couple years once I'm finished with college I will try again. Most likely go to Northern California. Beautiful up there, tons to do, and waaaaay cheaper and less trendy tha SoCal. Texas was cool but I wouldnt wanna live there. Arizona maybe. Take care. ![]() |

Thanks, Jakehorror, for reassuring me I'm not crazy for wanting to leave Indiana. It's really a shame you had to leave California. I'm sure I'd like living there, too - but who can afford it? I hope you can get back there someday!
You mentioned something about Texas not being for you. Maybe I missed something in your story, so please pardon me if I did. Did you live in Texas at some point? Where in that state did you live? Certainly, Texas is not for everyone. Maybe I just like to analyze things, maybe analyze a little too much. But I wonder what is the reasoning behind someone telling me I should just love my small town Shelby County native area? I mean what exactly is the motivation behind someone saying something like this? I have a few theories to explain this. A) If enough younger people leave the rural home area, that area will lose its "glory." Hope for the region's future might be dampened if enough people take off. B) There is the old idea that living and/or working in a large urban center exposes a person to moral decadence, and thus the character of an otherwise wholesome small town native may become contaminated. I know Billy Graham used to teach something along these lines, saying that one faces more temptations living in the city than living in the country because there is less opportunity to patronize bars, night clubs, etc. in the country. C) A few people are simply jealous. They either can't or don't want to put the effort into moving away. It makes them mad when someone else does so, because they are immature in their attitude. I'm sure there are other theories out thee, too. |
